icywater Posted October 14, 2004 My PSU unit making this high pitch noise last night so today i measure the voltage with a multi meter. When i turn the comp on I measure the 12 volt rail, it read 13.45v but after a 2 hours it read like 17.50v  I thought that my meter is wrong so i when and grab my dad multi meter and it still read the same. For the 5 volt rail it read 5.45v but after 2 hours it read 7.44v . Are these the sign of the PSU truggle to produce the require power?
soundx98 Posted October 14, 2004 I think that PSU sounds extremely dangerous. I would recommend that you cease using that PSU immediately. You may lose other critical components if you continue. The ATX specification is +/- 10% on those rails. It appears to be in a "runaway"condition.
Angry_Games Posted October 15, 2004 agree with sound...sounds like a wonky psu that could cause you some serious problems if you leave it plugged in...
mbudh Posted October 15, 2004 I think your rigs is overload for your PSU. If you have good soldering skill, you can modd your PSU so it can tweaked to the real voltage 12 volt and more. Otherwise, change your PSU to 550 Watt minim.
