magmaster21 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Well, I just got my lanparty UT, am sitting at 210x12 (2520) right now (2-2-2-5) and priming just to make sure everything's ok.. I've flashed to the 9/12 beta bios and have my vdimm at 3.1.. My rails look VERY bad though, something my XP setup was VERY strong on.. 3.3v = 3.18 AGP +1.5 = 1.48 VBAT +3.0v = 3.04 5v = 5.02 but here's the kicker.. 12v = 9.79!!! I'm priming right now, and at idle the 12v rail get's up to 11.2.. All my other rails seem to be solid (except 3.3 a little).. As I said before, on my AXP setup, my rails were even above what they shoulda been (3.3, 5, 12).. I've been priming for 30 min. (test 7) and it's still moving along at 9.79 on the 12v rail.. I also ran 8m superpi without any problems.. Is the reading off (BIOS says same thing), or is my system messed up? What could be causing it.. I only added a second DVD-RW, and surely this can't be it.. Thanks
JazzMang Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Only way to find out for sure would be to grab your multimeter! Try not to place too much trust in the voltage readings reported by any software.
magmaster21 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Unfortunately I don't have an MM, nor do any friends.. It's on test 9 right now and all is good.. I seriously don't know what the heck it could be.. Also, I've got an SLK948 and my load is at 52C but my PWM and System are at 33C.. This seems a bit on the high side, doesn't it? Although, I heard using these BIOS gives faulty temp. readings.. Is this true?
magmaster21 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Update: Prime failed after an hour..
Guest culinist Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Gonna have to get a MM. It's the only true way to tell. I bought one from sears for like 25 bucks. Just make sure it's digital.
JazzMang Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 go to the shack or to fry's (if available) You can get a good autoranging digital MM for about 19.99 Its really the only way to tell if you've really got a problem or not. Axel Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 If its any consolation to you I just tested my rails after they were showing up as a bit low in the Smartguardian. 12V shows as 11.7 under load, MM shows it as 12.1 5V shows as 4.8 under load, MM shows it as 5.01 3.3V shows as 3.2 under load, MM shows it as 3.4 I knew these Tagan 480's were V good PSU's. So, Smart guardian aint all that smart as it turns out. Thing is, your Mainboard will always give off resistance when the built in monitor tries to get its readings and so they will read low. Don't understand your 12v though, that sounds pretty bad BUT you will never know for sure untill you test with a Multimetre. I'm going to test my temps on that annoying PWM IC that keeps triggering an alarm, hopefully because it's reading high and is not really that high:eek: "Smart" guardian, haha they kill me:D Axel
New-B Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Hmmm....12v rail that low can happen when the 4pin power connector isn't plugged in/making good contact. Have you checked that?
