DFI LP UT - strange behavements

Hey!

I got a strange problem here since i got my new rig (see sig).

I can safely raise my vcore up to 1.350*123% (=1.66V), that allows me the OC I have in my sig.

Trying to OC my CPU higher (and therefore: raising the Vcore) never leads me to a stable OC. One thing I noticed there: the higher the vcore, the lesser my highest OC on my Radeon 9800 (i can see those white dots earlier).

I attached a picture of my stable OC. As you can see, my +12V rail stays at 11.9V and the Vcore at 1.61V.

As soon as I primetest my system, the +12V drops down to 11.77V, the Vcore increases (?!) to 1.66V and the CPU temp rockets up to 47°C (thats an increase of over 15°C!!) within the moment of starting the test.

This does not influence my current OC in any way, but it does not allow me any higher OC.

The dropping 12V rail leads me to the conclusion that I need a stronger PSU (ATM, I'm using a modded Enermax 353W) ... do you people agree? And maybe have some suggestions on a new one (I'd like to increase the 3.3V rail per built-in poti and have it as silent as my fan-modded Enermax :))?

Still, this does not explain the temperature issue ... I dont think that such an increase is practically possible (especially because my rig's on water ...)!

Thanks for reading through all this.

hey

well, just because you say that your Vid Card is less overclockable at higher CPU Vcores, and that fact that its only a ~350w~ PSU, this leads me to believe that its your PSU.

do you have DMM to meause your PSU rails with?

Hey there!

jess: That was my guess, too. Thanks!

Damn that PSU isnt even older than 6 months :/

How can I measure the rails?

Twister: heh, I just changed my sig ... and you're right, I'm only on water :)

But as I said in the post, I dont think that those 47°C are for real, because the temp jumps up under load within less than a second and drops down the same speed as soon as my system goes idle ...
