iytenorio Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 ..some pieces for my new pc, and a few days ago i (finally) got my 250gb; i read out there that there were some problems about memory with a64, specially when it comes to spd timings, so.. now that i've got the LP, i'm gonna buy a 3200+ or 3400+, preferably CG, and 2x512 memory sticks from OCZ/Corsair, which are: OCZ Platinum PC3200-DDR 2-2-2-7 with BH6 OCZ Gold PC3700-DDR 2-3-3-7 OCZ Gold PC3500EL-DDR 2-3-3-6 Corsair 3200C2Pro TwinX1024 2-3-3-6 my question is.. will this all be 100% compatible & working with the motherboard? (latest BIOS from web at hand) i'm interested in OC when i get everything to work, but that will be later on.. well, hope u can help me
TobyWong Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I'm running OCZ PC3700 gold rev 3, 2.5-3-3-8 and I'm fairly lukewarm about it. I really have to loosen the timings to get decent overclocks and then anything I've gained in LDT speed is lost with the loose timings. I think if I could choose again I would probably go with the PC3200 platinum rev 2.
iytenorio Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 i'll have to be more specific seeking the sticks needed, but if you can't really OC using those 2-2-2 thing, it's not worth the price ('ere it goes for almost 320€, think it were about 260$). about the timings, i found at a review at tomshardware that the mother didn't really use what you told to do so (at least with some VIA's and nF3-150..) but, what is more, the chipset, the micro or something was being picky about the memory and didn't even boot, so thx TobyWong (now i know it works... ) so, after all... that harder timings are really worth? :$ (msn freak, sorry) it would be really helpful if someone posted their <> config!! thx again & c u
TobyWong Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Well a few things to help you with your decision: 1. The DFI NF3 UT has more memory timing options in BIOS than you can shake a stick at. 2. If you are spending that much cash on good memory, you will want to manually set your timings instead of allowing the SPD settings to take effect. 3. Because you are manually setting your timings, any SPD issues that may exist at very high overclocks are moot.
