250 fsb - bh-5 NO problem, mobo? problem

Much thanks to uwackme's burnin method, I've gotten my sticks stable to 250 FSB (5-2-2-2) with CPC on. memtest86 can run for 8+ hours straight without a single error.

[email protected] = 2000 mhz

ram = 3.3v

NB = tried 1.7, 1.8, 1.9

using stock 6/19 bios

However ... everytime I do a Prime95 test, it would fail in the first or second test. I've tried changing my mobo voltages around, but it doesn't help at all. Have I exceeded this mobo's limit?

you want to the use the most stressful test...just testing CPU isnt as good as testing CPU + RAM together (in this way Prime is superior to memtest).

look into mott's suggestion...and this:

then again you might never attain full prime stability...but we think you can if you just tweak a lil here and there and nearly go crazy...

[edit] i better state what is in this machine eh?

Buffalo PC3700 BH-5

SP-97 heatsink

LanParty NF2B (Infinity will do same but on a Mobile requires 1.775v @ 250x10)

active sb cooler (ripped from an Asus A7V266-E NB)

some other stuff that isnt really important

Enermax EG301-VB 300w psu (the one that is powering this monster NF3 board now)

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! The small FFT test was ran for 3 hours with no problem.

I'm gonna try to put some more voltage on the CPU and bring my mobo voltage to 1.8-1.9 and then try the blend tests again.

I'll update as I go. :)

Prime95 BLEND torture tests

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.775v, MOBO @ 1.6v - failed in 2 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.775v, MOBO @ 1.7v - failed in 4 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.775v, MOBO @ 1.8v - failed in 0 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.775v, MOBO @ 1.9v - failed in 2 minutes

- 1.7 looks good, ran for a little longer than the others

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.7v, MOBO @ 1.7v - failed in 0 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.725v, MOBO @ 1.7v - failed in 0 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.750v, MOBO @ 1.7v - failed in 0 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.750v, MOBO @ 1.7v - failed in 1 minutes

RAM @ 3.3v, CPU @ 1.7750v, MOBO @ 1.7v - failed in 1 minutes

- was thinking maybe the cpu voltage was too high, so I tried lower voltages, they didn't work too well

Bump the Tras from 5 to 8 or 11. NFII chipset MB's universally will have higher memory

bandwidth and much better stability with Tras set higher.

ram 3.3v 11-2-2-2

cpu @ 1.8v, mobo @ 1.7v - prime95 test - runs for 11 minutes

at that setting (cpu 1.8v, mobo 1.7v) , prime95 lasts 11 minutes, at any other setting prime95 doesn't last over 1 minute.

Anyone have any suggestions? or maybe cpu voltage / mobo voltage combinations?

Well.. cpc is nice to have on.. But you have 2x 512mb's of ram.. I would say the majority of peeps running that memory config have a hard time getting high fsb in general without volt mods .. not to mention with cpc on..

Dont take any offence to this.. But I think your asking for alot from your 2x 512mb sticks.. without some volt mods..

Just a thought..

GL on your fsb quest..

THunDA

edit..

Btw.. Memtest is a good stability test for memory but not something Id live by.. sometimes other tests show instability that others dont..

I'm pretty sure it's not my memory that can't do the FSB, it's probably my mobo and my CPU.

I mean, memtest86 lasted for 10+ hours, and then Prime95 fails in 0 minutes ... either memtest86 is obsolete or its the mobo and CPU.

Alright, Prime95 runs on small FFT's for longer than an hour, memtest86 will run for 10+ hours, but blend doesn't run at all. I think my mobo can't do 250 FSB.
