shogan191 Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Wanting to know if there is a fix for ocing while using 3 and 4 drives in raid 0. I have no problems increasing fsb when using only the number 3 and 4 sata connectors but when I include 1 and or 2 for a 3 or 4 drive array it corrupts if I go over 230fsb. I'm still using the original bios.
RGone Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004  ...Yes, there is a fix for the Sata ports 1 and 2. Do not use them over 240FSB and if you need that many Sata ports by a Silicon Image chipped add-in card and have at it for the other two drives you seem to need. Bear one thing in mind though> more drives in any config is going to tax windoors and lower the max overclock you can achieve anyway. Sincerely, RGone... shogan191 Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Thanks RGone. It's a competition kinda thing. Lots of points for the 3 and 4 drive array. Already have a Promise x4 controller. The onboard controller just scores particularly high for this test. Is the 240 fsb number you used just out of the air or is it what some have been able to do? Thanks again for your help. RGone Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004  ...just throw numbers out of thin air as it were. The boards designer brought it to the attention of users in a number of places and the proof of the pudding is in AG's rig as we "flew" to 240FSB on 1/2 and just ran into a wall. He swapped to the 3/4 and immediately went to 250. Not thin air materials or info. Sincerely, RGone...
shogan191 Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Thanks. Ran a good test at 238 then the raid scores dropped. Did this before so will do another install. Would be great if they find a fix. Stock scores using 3 and 4 drives in raid are killer.
RGone Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 ... so we are sure we are on the same channel. Would be great if they find a fix. There will not be a fix and is why I said if you need the 4 drives for Sata use to get an add-in card and get tuning. There are chipset limitations that rear their ugly head and this is one and nVidia would have to recast silicon and they are not is my guess. This is one reason I do not like everything in one chipset because the flaw is then the flaw is the flaw and no way to fix just a piece of the problem on one bridge or the other. So the add in card will have to be it. RGone...
