What caused windows to go FUBAR?

Recommended Posts

Hi posted here a few days ago with my new rig and overclock:

now the problem is my windows install got corrupted, the other morning I went to work shut the computer down came home windows wouldn't boot.

I tried to repair the master boot record using fixmbr and fixboot comands in the recovery console but to no avail, so formatted and installed again.

My question is what caused this, my Sata drives are on channels 3,4 so 250htt should be no problem?

I've been running this setup for afew days with no problems, and the only thing that I did differently that morning was while windows was shutting down I pulled my 128mb pendrive out the usb without safely removing.

I was wondering that because the SATA drives show up in xp as removable devices along with my pendrive could this have screwed up the windows install?

What exactly happend when you tried to boot it back up, what error messages did you get?

at what point did you remove the pendrive before, during or after the shutdown??

did you install any new apps or hardware before you shutdown ??

 that was logged into windoors due to the pendrive being installed and then>

I pulled my 128mb pendrive out the usb without safely removing.

That happening could very well have windoors chasing itself around looking for the pendrive and saying oh me oh my I cannot boot rightly without my lost pendrive.

Sort of silly but I have seen windoors fail to boot for just such silly reasons and give no clue as to the problem.

I would expect that following 'procedure' would be your best hedge against a repeat performance?

Sincerely, RGone...

I didn't get any error messages, windows just wouldn't boot. wouldn't even go into safe mode got hung on loading Mup.sys, god knows what that is.

I pulled the pendrive out of the usb during the windows is shutting down screen.

And I didn't install any aps beforehand.

Cheers Rgone for that I wasn't sure whether it was the O'clock that screwed windows, and was dubious to try that high again. but I think your right and it was the pendrive/my fault (holds hand up);)

I think I'll get into bios and up some more LOL

the mup.sys is used for authenticating / finding Novell servers, so i suspect you dont need it.

you can stop this from loading up by booting up with the windows install cd and doing a repair, go into admin part and type disable mup

I have also found on several abit and gigbyte boards that they are very picky on ADE cd/dvd drives and the position of them on the chain.
