Hi all,

My first post here, i need help desperadly.

I just installed this new board but it simply refuses to post.

Both red DRAM and Standby powerleds are on but pushing the powerbutton makes the drives and fans spin but the powerled is blinking!! :(

Here's what i already tried:

Cleared Cmos, disconnected everyting but powerplugs (ATX and 4pin 12V) and frontpanel connectors,1 stick of ram, 2 sticks, different ram slots, another videocard, no going!

Config:

Lanparty UT 250GB, 3400+ Clawhammer (worked in my Shuttle AN50R),2x256mb Kingston HyperX BH-5,GF4 ti4200 (also tried FX5900) Enermax 465w PSU.

Anyone have a clue? I'm all out!

Btw, having the jumper in clearCmos position does exactly the same.

You should really put your rig in your sig, although you posted what you have it is ask from the mods that you do this if you read the READ BEFORE YOU POST sticky.

Anyway what kinda clawhammer is that, mobil,DTR or desktop CPU.

Also when clearing CMOS I have noticed it needs to have the Battery removed & PSU shut off & let set for about 10 minutes

in the clear position

before it would clear.

You may also want to only use 1 stick of ram in the slot closes to the CPU.

When you go to boot let it try for maybe a minite befor you say it want post, mine has supriced me when it took awail & then posted. Try stut down & power button a few times.

remove the board from the Case. setup a cardboard bed and use 1 stick of ram. CPU and hook the power supply up. Hook a speaker up to the front panel Leads. try posting then. if nothing then remove the ram and then try posting again.

if still nothing then remove and reseat the CPU. do all test again.

Then report back.

Just been putting my system in my sig byt for some reason it doesn't appear.

My 3400+ is just a regular desktop CPU.

Already tried 1 stick in the slot closest to the CPU (slot1), no joy.

Bypolar, taking the mobo out of the case isn't easy with watercooling, i take it you're suspecting something might cause shortage, i can assure you, this isn't the case.

Do mean trying to boot without RAM??

Reseating the CPU?

It can only go in one way, what could have gone wrong?

How can the powerled be blinking, what does that mean??

No beeps, just a blinking led. :(

edit: sig does appear now. :)

Well if the board is truly dead you are going to have to remove it anyways.

And this is the only way to eliminate all other possiabltys. Yes it sucks.

Hopefully you have a Air cooler to install on the board once it is out of the case.

and check for damaged parts Like we saw on the LP-B after the Thermalright installs.

True, i might try, i have a spare PSU laying around and yes i still have the boxed cooler.

Oh man i feel like crying, i was so happy getting this board so early, now i'm almost sure it's dead.

At first glance nothing looked damaged but i haven't inspected closely.

Thanks for you guys help, any more ideas are still welcome.

No one i asked had ever seen a powerled blinking, i think powerregulation on the board is screwed.

It just doesn't give the powergood beep.

Another strange thing i noticed is that when i turn on the PSU, both red leds are on, after an attempt of booting, the DRAM powerled is off.

Beats me....

Do you have some other vid card besides GF, I have had some probs with older cards in a64s.

Did you go threw every thing you tried after installing the 5900x.

It seem strange for the LED to be blinking, I am shure you did this but the 4pin connector for power.

The blinking LED has only happend to me when something is not capatable.

Tried with and without this additional 4pin 12V connector, same result.

Didn't bother to go tru all the trouble again with the FX5900 installed, just tried this card to see if the videocard was at fault which wasn't to be.

I just can't think of nothing else other than this mobo.

I never install an MB in a case (especially w/ cooling that takes more than 30 secs to install/remove). W/O testing on 'the desk'

I have a desk in the basement where I stick stuff to try out. Forget is this your 1st dfi board?

My board won't see a case until late in the week

Do you have leftover cooler for stock testing? If not, get one.

Then accept the inevitable, and pull it out and setup somewhere static free. MB, CPU, 1 stick memory, leftover vid card, PSU. Boot Floppy or flash drive set up w/ memtest (I got some Gateway 16mb flashies, from Tigerdirect for 5$ apiece, work great.)

Try w/ that. It will be faster and less frustating than trying to get things to work inside cramped case w/ 150% useless clutter (Which will become useful when this is)

Been where you are many times (Mach I!). Believe me when I say that this way will ultimately be easier.

Assuming it works, look around here and at pcper for my posts on measuring temps of stuff and sinking. As long as you have it out, might as well get as much done as possible b4 you put it back.

Also you are less likely to break something inside the case if it doesn't work and you are removing it while being PISSED THAT IT DOESN'T WORK if that turns out to be true.

For quick tests, a towel underneath, then the foam is good. Longer testing (overnite, etc) and I would support board at the opposite edges w/ something and point a small fan at the whole thing.

That's enough pontification, hopefully some useful info here too.

GOOD LUCK! I want someone to compare settings with.

Check your wiring from the pwr switch, reset switch, etc.

to the mboard real close and make sure they are correct.

The DFI Sisters don't beep when things Power On and

POST so the 250GB probably doesn't either. I can't say

for positive as mine hasn't been delivered yet.

There is/has been a short somewhere.

The DRAM Power Led going out happens when I have killed

the chipset (SB) by poking around in the wrong place. While

taking a Vdimm/Vcore reading.

You haven't slipped with a tool and stabbed the mboard

somewhere.... or a bit of water hasn't dripped on the

mboard somewhere?
