Well, people, I've spent the last couple of months reading about how to build your own computer...I gathered up the "stuff", put it together and today, I pushed "The Button".......and it worked!!! I have never built a computer before, actually, the most I've ever done was to add some RAM and a couple of fans to my Gateway.

I'd like to thank the folks here for the help and advice that I got and also thanks to the "Guy-in-charge" for putting this site together.

This is the system that I wound up with;

Case..................... Lian-Li PC65

Power Supply...........Enermax EG465

Hard Drive............... Western Digital 80 G

Video Card.............. ATI Radeon 9500 Pro

Sound Card..............Sound Blaster Audigy2

Processor .............. AMD AthlonXP 2600

Memory................... Corsair TwinX 1024-2700LL

Motherboard........... Asus A7N8X Deluxe

Network Card.......... Lynksys 10/100 Lan Card

Floppy Drive.............Mitsumi 3.5

CD/DVD Rom........... Sony DDU1621

CD Burner................Sony CRX220A1

Software.................. Windows XP Home

Misc..........................$100.00

Total price..just over $1500.00

Xanax and Tums...$20.00 :D

I do have to say, I was very proud of myself when I hit that button today.

Mike

Congrats... I was pretty proud too when I built my first computer last year. Where you a little bit nervous about putting the processor fan on? I was nervous for that part from all the people saying, "The slightest mistake and you will fry your processor."

The first computer I built (actually I did about 5-8 that day) was for my school and they all worked :) It was kinda fun though because we had a mini-LAN party that day and I kicked everyones @$$ :D

ya, congrats. i remember those times.

zorton. just curious, if (when you bought the Linksys 10/100 lan card) you knew that the a7n8x deluxe had dual lan ports built-in. if ya didn't know, its cool. if you planned on doing something with it, i would be interested in what you're doing. you like to network computers? or planning on making a computer into a router or something?

thats a really great first comp. when i built mine i had no idea what i was doing, so i asked my friend for help. I sent him links of an ebay auction, and he didn't really care so he was just like "sure whatever". so i ended up with a cyrix700 on a motherboard without an agp slot... man i hated that peice of crap..

that probably meant that it had onboard video just in case you didn't know that and went out and bought a PCI card. unless it was before AGP even came out.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Actually, I bought the card before I had decided on a board. Although, I most likely would have bought the card anyway, 'cuz that's how I am. My first comp has that card and the router is the same brand, so I just stuck with it. I'm the kind of guy that won't put Goodyears on the front and Michelins on the back. :D

Please be prepared for about a million dumb questions from this address.

Thanks...

MIke
