I tried setting the multiplier to 13 and I was getting back 833 mhz according to wcpuid, 166*5, 14 comes back as 6. Also why is 13 listed at the top? See rig config in sig. This may sound wierd but in the mult menu ther where mults like 9/17 and 8/16, (which turn out to be like 6 and7) below 14 and before 5 and so on.

I have Bios 1003

And.... The Printed number on the PBC says the board is rev 2.0 but both wcpuid and asus pc prob say its 1.xxx

please help

Good, now I don't feel so alone with this.

I emailed asus last night. I'll post when I get a response.

Thanks Judas

Also, what did you do to your xp 1800 to make it hit 2 ghz, I couldn't get my xp 2000 past 1.8 with vcore mods and the like

Is your xp 2000+ a palomino or a t-bred, cause if it's a palomino, your not gonna get much more out of it due to heat problems. My CPU is a 1800 t-bred B with JIUHB DLT3C stepping, @ 1.5 Vcore I got it to 2192 Mhz, but my ram crancked out. T-bred's overclock much better and produce less heat.

Ok... I don't have a CLUE what you are trying to say in the inital post... but on the Revision number... look at the Product string in WCPUID... it should say A7N8X2.0

it is revison 1.xxx of the 2.0 PCB..

also... I can choose any multiplier I want... and I think I have in the last week and a half to try and find nice speeds...

I have a 2400+ so stock is 133x15

right now I have it at 170x13 = 2210Mhz and runs fine....

ran at 175 x 12.5 for a little while too whith no probs...

  • 3 weeks later...

An update...

Based on the voice mail message from ASUS today they seems to think think this is a defect. I will call back tommarow. I was encouraged to go to the store where I bought my board. I have swaped out several cpus, (and in the process crushed my xp2500 under the case:angry: :(:( ) and all have this problem.

anyway my multiplier menu looks like this.

The final results of this debical are as follows.

In the past month I have gone though three A7N8X Mainboards and two athlon xp 2500 cpus.:(

The will call guy at computer stop thought the multiplier thing might be caused by a bad PSU. I tried two different PSUs with varoius mobos. Multiplier menu was whacked every time  . I swaped out two or three cpus to find out if this was a cpu problem. It was not. I have concluded that this is an asus defect. My frist xp 2500 wound up under the case on the third swap. Smashed it flat. :( I had to stare at it for a minute to belive it. Somehow some of the pins on the second cpu got bent in the shuffle. I spent two days fixing that. Its running in this computer now.wahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last A7N8X is currently dead. I cleared the CMOS (I think I did it wrong), and now it won't post.

I running as a7v333 now.

That was fun....
