Guest MetalMilitia18 Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Okay, with my mobo (sig) and the dual channel memory option does that work with the ram I have? (sig). I called an AMD tech support guy and was asking some questions and he said that dual channel memory would only work with DDR400 PC3200, and I only have DDR333 PC2700, so I was wondering if I need to buy new ram entirely just to receive Dual-channel support. Any help?
stealth Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 I'm running PC2700 in dual channel mode. At least the computer says so at boot.
DimensioN Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 has nothing to do with the PC 400. when the mobo supports till PC400 dual channel, you can install dual channel, and normal memory, above and below PC 400. but most people buy pc 400 dual ddr because this is supported by the mobo and because it doesn't cost that much. you can install even pc266 on it , but you will underclock your system. also when installing PC433 you won't be able to use All speeds of the memory because when the system runs at 400mhz memory speeds, the memory will also do that, and won't work at 433. so in order to let the memory work at 433mhz, you have to OC the system till it runs at the same speeds as the memory
Kot Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 I've got Asus A7N8X (not Deluxe) rev. 1.04 and 2 identical DDR modules (No-Names on Samsung chips) at banks 2 and 3 (the blue ones). But the POST gives me no message that I'am using Dual-Channel. How should that message look at my mobo, why doesn't it give any message? THX for answer
DimensioN Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 i don't think you CAN activate it.. i think when you DO have dual channel DDR, it automaticaly uses the dual channel speeds on the sticks.
amd-phreek Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 You can use any type of memory in dual channel mode on this mobo. The Manufacturer instructions say that to use dual channel mode you must: 1) have at least 2 sticks of ram on board 2) you must place them in: bank 1 & 3 or bank 1 and 2 but NOT in bank 2 and 3 only. they tried to make this easy by color coding the banks.... as long as you have a stick in the black bank AND blue bank you are using dual channel mode.
