Cainfoo Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Hi All, I just recieved 2 new bios chips from Elts Drac today and I am trying to hot flash them so I have a backup. Award flash starts ok. It asks for file name which I entered. It asks if I want to save the old bios file and I say no. It then shows Bios image file is for nForce Only like normal and then starts flashing the messege please wait and that is where it stops. The FDD light stays on forever and the only way I can get out of it is to hold the power switch for 4 seconds. It's like the computer is locking up. I have never had this happen before when flashing. I am not currently using any of the switches for Award flash. Do I need to??? Is the process different because the chips are blank?? Any help would be wonderful!! Popcicle Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Need to use the switches as always. Gives Awdflash instructions of what to do for you. I don't recommend the /f switch nor does DFI. Use /tiny instead. Also, on the DFI I quit using the /cc switch. Which version of Awdflash are you using? 8.24 works pretty good. The new 8.30 version that comes bundled with the 6/19 BIOS works for me. Edit: ... you are flashing using a boot disk and working from the DOS prompt = A: correct? Cainfoo Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Yes I am working from a boot disk in DOS. I am using Award flash 8.24. I am currently in the process of trying it with the switches. I am typing to you as I work from my AN7. I will update in a couple minutes. Kevin
Cainfoo Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 I finally got it to flash. I grabbed a new floppy and formatted it and then loaded Awdflash and the bios on it. That seem to fix the problem. But the bios I was trying to flash was the performance beta from DFI. After flashing and clearing cmos it would not boot. I was getting 1 long tone and then silence and then 1 long tone etc...And then after a few seconds I was also getting hi lo hi lo siren at the same time. So I flashed it with the latest official bios, which is what I have been using and and cleared cmos. Went into bios and reset to my previous overclock settings and all is good. So now I have a spare bios chip. Yeeee Haaaa. Thank you Elts Drac for the chips!! Kevin

Cainfoo Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Hi Elts Drac I used one of the 2 chips I got from you to make a back up for my AN7. It flased fine first try but I have a strange problem with it now. After I flashed the new chip I just left that chip in as it was the same bios as the original chip I took out. I have 3 operating systems on my AN7 pc. Windows xp works fine. But win2K and Winme won't connect to the internet through my LAN any more. I have tried many things but nothing seems to correct it. So I put the original chip with the same bios back in and all 3 OS's work fine. I put the new chip in and LAN works on xp but not 2k or me. I just don't get it. I thought maybe I lost the MAC address but then I should lose LAN on all 3 right??? Any input would be great! Kevin
elts_drac Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Well XP is a little more intuitive when it comes to detecting the net. you might have to reset the mac address. Check thge thread I will start later in the motherboard forum about losing MAC addresses. I dorked my fresh chip I had in the ORG side of my BS and seem to have lost the MAC for the NVidia onboard. Right now I'm running on the RD-1 side till I make an AWDFLASH 8.24f w/6/19 on it to flash a fresh one.
SAE Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Ain't the MAC address to find on a sticker on the AGP slot's side???
elts_drac Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 well I have 2 stickers on the AGP slot with IDENTICAL 12 digit numbers on them, and the mac is on the second PCI slot with 16 hex digits. But his issue is XP connects but 2k an ME won't. He'll probably have to manually enter the MAC in the network connections screen of control panel.
