Water cooling plunge

Recommended Posts

Hi all....

Well today I was given an Aquarius II water cooling system from a friend who owed me some cash. I have never attempted water cooling before so I am looking for any pointers I can get. I was wondering if this system is of good quality. I was also wondering if there are any coolants that can be used that are superior to water and would it be better to mount the radiator externally so the heat given off is not going to heat up the interior of my case. Anything else you have to offer would be wonderful. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

hrmm...I've never used watercooling, phase change, or anything other than air cooling myself...but I'd stick to that ALX you just ordered and sell the watercooling to someone...seems like a lot of hassle and a lot more risk running watercooling than plain old air...

water cooling is great but kits like that suck. they're basically equal to high end air cooling (bad IMO).

If you do want to take the plunge you can do it fairly cheaply (less than the cost of that kit) and you will get great performance.

Simple kit like a maze4cpu, maze4gpu, via1300, a heatercore, clearflex60, and misc fittings will only cost around $150 and it'll rock your world ;)

PS A_G I love the ATHF avatar :D

Read this thread. I know this is a UK site but the advise you will find is sound. Have a good look around the watercooling section of the store. The guides section of the forum off good guides to installation. A search of the watercooling section of the forum may come up with a few answers for you.

I personally use an Innovatek water block on my CPU with an Eiheim Pump and Innovatek radiator, Had the kit about 2 years, its been superceded now but I still get good results. GPU is air cooled and Northbridge has a microcool nothpole on it.

Current s temp are case 31, cpu 34 celcius. That with an FSB of 240 and cpu running at 2.4ghz.

Go for watercooling but be sure the Aquarius II is the right kit to buy.

Coolant wise, use deionised water ( car battery top up water) with a little corrosion inhibitor added. Use either purple ice, water wetter or a small amount of good quality anti freeze. Again search the O-CuK forum for reccomended addatives.

Hope this helps

Well all here is an update on the water cooling. I decided to put it on my 2nd rig, the AN7. My DFI is maxed already due to the locked processor, and the temps are fine with the current air cooling. My AN7 was stuck at 195 MHz due to temps. So I installed the Aquarius on it. At first it looked great. The temps dropped about 27 f. But then the longer it ran the hotter it got. The extra heat it was removing was heating up the interior of the case and so as the ambient internal temp went up so did the processor. So I moved the radiator outside the case and wala. Problem solved. I know this system is about as good as an SLK-900 and there are far superior water systems. But it is fun playing with something new. Right now I am benching it at 202 MHz and hoping for more. I will post later when I get the final results.

you will get hooked on the wawa, and then eventually have to move to phase change, if I had the $$ I would be there already. I ahve a custom water setup with DangerDen blocks and it rocks. I idle at about 30~31c and load @ 34C @ the settings in my sig, and when I max OC(and voltage) to bench i prolly max temp out @ 38~39c Water rocks, your setup is good enough to wet your appetite.

Water Rocks.... I will never go back.... the AII is OK.....but a custom system would crush it...

the AII will cool like a decent air system with the advantage of being near silent....

a custom system will cool much better and still be silent ;)

Well the final results are in. With the Volcano 7+ cooler my max overclock was 195x11.5(2242). Now with the Aquarius II water cooling set my max overclock is 208x11.5(2392)@2.1 volts Vcore. At these settings my temps are still 20 f lower then they were on air cooling. I tried more Vcore but I can't get past the 208. I was trying to get to 210 and break the 2.4 GHz barrier. I will keep trying. I have not done much testing yet to confirm it is the CPU that is causing my crashes, but I am fairly sure it isn't ram related. But anywas there it is. It's always fun playing with new toys!
