Reflashed Bios using BootBlock After Bad Flash - LANPARTY PROB REV B1

Recommended Posts

Today I tried updating my bios with radarsync. (I hadn't read this forum yet.) Of course it messed up my bios, and the bad boot block came up.

I formatted a 1.44 floppy using the MS-DOS startup disk option in Windows XP. First few tries I used the version of awdflash.exe (8.30) and the 04-09 bios available at DFI's site. I had the same results as other users here, awdflash would hang.

Then I took the battery out from the motherboard and put it back in, to reset the cmos settings.

I googled awdflash and dled the first result. The url is below. It is actually from Asus.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/asus/mb/socka/n...8x/awdflash.zip

The actual version of awdflash in that archive is 8.28b. I copied the awdflash over to the floppy and overwrote the one from DFI.

Although I am not sure if it even matters, I created an autoexec.bat with the command line:

awdflash 875ld409.bin /cc

I booted the computer and it wrote the flash no problems. I am not saying this will work for everyone but it worked for me using the method described above. I think the key is using the different version of awdflash. I am just glad I didn't have to send my chip away to be flashed.

I hope this helps someone.

stfu good post. TW claims that we should NEVER use any awdflash but the 8.30....and yet RG and I swear up and down it is maybe the worst version we have seen yet (so on goes the fight to get them to listen lol).

i am also glad you didnt have to send the chip away...not cuz we dont want to help you, but because you'd have to wait up to 5-7 days to get it back =(.

Guest Dramd

I used the radar sync and winflash. Totally killed the board. I had to order another one all together. I tried to get Angry on msn a couple of times to find out what to do, but no answer. I guess you live and learn. I will not ever use winflash to flash again, back to floppy flashing for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the good info, stfu.

I had hosed my bios (trying to flash a rev B with the rev A bios by accident  ).

Your solution worked. The only thing that I did differently than you was I did not include the autoexec.bat file. It worked, however, so apparently it's not necessary.
