Sluggish CD-Roms with Infinity?

Recommended Posts

The latency on the cd-roms seem sluggish, I tried to install Photoshop 7.0, thought the install crashed, turns out it took like a whole minute to start an install... But runs the install fine afterwards(?)

Latest Nvidia's 4.11

Anyone thinking it's the Nvidia IDE drivers?

And what about the PIO mode? Manually set it to mode 4 for both in the BIOS.

Hmmm... the latest Nvidia drivers are 4.24's ( not sure if you're talking about the UDP version ). As far as the CD-ROMs they should be in either Ultra DMA or (Multi-word DMA if older drives)but not PIO, that's what is giving the slowdown (I would think).

My IDE1008 8x dvd burner is UltraDMA4. You want to get away from PIO. If windows refuses, then it may have logged errors and step'd down the speed. There is a registry tweak to clear the error flag..... search M$oft KB for it.
