NFII LP Ultra B, board says it's rev A, manual says it's rev A+

Recommended Posts

Hey all, mobo just came in and I was looking at it and noticed that by the whited out part it says it is a Rev A board, but it also says that its a LP Ultra B somewhere above that. Then my manual says it is a rev A+? What the crap is this about?

Also, by the socket, where you have that little handle that you lift in order to free the processor, there seems to be some black goop (dry) that is covering some metal looking things (I have no idea what they might be called, but they are everywhere). Should this be a problem?

Thanks all.

 about the 40th post I have seen about the A rev board and an A+ manual. All the boards I have heard of in the last 5 months say that in the manual. Not something to worry about that I know of.

The black stuff on top of something is not something I can answer. I had heard of a few boards that had a greenish glue on some resistors for a little protection. Without pics; who knows?

Sincerely, RGone...

 the 'res' pic looks similar to the stuff that is seen on some boards holding a capacitor down or out of the way. The pic of the socket is too dark for me to see the area at the edge of the zif socket that your white arrow points to.

My understanding is the area of the greenish to really dark greeenish glue was at the lower right corner of the zif socket as it would be oriented as if mounted in the case. Close to the holes where the standoffs for thru board mounts would be.

1. So the capacitator pic... is that something that I should worry about? Should I send the motherboard back in?

2. The socket pic.. the green gue is right there by the hole, like its spewing from underneath the socket. It is covering some metal things (as I have said, no idea what they are nor what they do). Is this bad?

The reason why I am asking and not trying it out on my own is bc Newegg has the EB memory on backorder, so I had to order from another place, and wont have it until later this week.

Thanks for the help

the epoxy is there to serve two functions...to protect the electronics that might be scraped by installation of other hardware, and to keep the cap held down so you can't accidentally hit it and knock it off (they are very flimsy as you know). it doesnt harm the board.

Thanks for the reply, I am glad to hear that nothing is wrong then. The fact that the resistor was laying on the side sort of worried me, but I am glad that is not the case.
