Hardware Failure error

Recommended Posts

I've been getting this error a lot lately. I've done everything except changing processors and motherboards to eliminate the errors. Today, I ran the software program called PC Check and it says the motherboard is failing the 'Time Ticker' test. It fails tha ttest 90% of the time, it seems. Everything else, including the cpu, vid card, ram, hard drives, and optical drives tested fine and dandy. So, I ordered a new Lanparty board from Newegg to be delivered tomorrow. I hope the new board will solve my hardware failure error issue. If it does, I'll RMA the current board to DFI. After that, look for a LanParty B to be on Ebay :)

 hope something fixes your time ticker. Not familiar with the $400.00?? proggie but maybe it knows something. Time and your plans will tell I suppose. Let us know.

Sincerely, RGone...

so let me get this straight...you are going to RMA a motherboard because it fails some test (one that I have not heard of before).

this doesn't tell me that your board fails at surfing the net, playing games, doing photo or vid editing, fails to boot, smoke pours out the side of the case....doesn't tell me anything.

what it does tell me is that you have not given us a thorough picture of the situation on your setup. Its extremely important that you do a detailed walk-through for us to try and help you figure out what the problem is with the setup you have. Without some in-depth info, our ability to help you solve an issue is nil.

hey guys. my post was not made in anger, guys. all i was stating was that my system would crash and the only error i was given was one declaring a hardware failure. that's all. I tried several things over a period of 3 or 4 days to eliminate possible sources of the error. i had removed one piece of hardware at a time to try to figure out what was causing the error. by that, i mean i removed one optical drive or one hard drive or one stick of ram, or any other piece of hardware and tried to use my system. i tried a new vid card, a different cpu, and different ram. sometimes, the error would occur at bootup. other times, the system would run for hours before the error would occur. and it mattered not one iota what function i was doing on the system when it would give the hardware failure error. it could have been reading email, surfing the web, using photoshop, or as simple as playing solitaire. i ran pc check, memtest, prime, and microscope tests an anything the test pertained to. the only thing that failed a test was the mb and that 'sub-test', as i call it, was the Time Ticker test in the pc check software. and it didn't fail the test every time, either. maybe 80 percent of the times i ran that test, it would fail. i hadn't heard of that test before, either. anyway, i got the new board today and will install it tomorrow. i'm hoping the problem will be solved. again, i'm not an angry customer. maybe i should never have posted about my plight :)

 ...in actuallity, we were all wondering what the heck was a time ticker test. I have seen blue screen hardware failure errors before and unless a hard code is given; it is a bit difficult to troubleshoot. When I looked up time ticker test it was seemingly related to synch of time off the net and to me that was a little strange to return as a hardware failure error. So we were all a little bit mysterfied to hear of such and it being a test I had not heard of. Who knows and is why I said that time and your testing would have to tell the tale.

Sincerely, RGone...:)

i apologize if i sounded very angry towards you. I do have a bad habit of getting irritated when users post very limited info to us =/. It makes it nearly impossible for us to help anyone, and after seeing 20 posts a day like that, unfortunately you seemed to be the one that got my harshness. Again I apologize.

glad to hear that your board is now working. Ive never seen the error you described either. Then again, RG and OCZTony can tell you they and I worked together on a problem a couple of days ago with a BSOD message that none of us had ever seen before on an LPB (and you realize we've seen almost EVERY bsod and windows error message ever made lol).

goes to show that even as DFI experts/techs, we still see things that are odd and have never encountered. Please dont be put off by posting here if you have any more issues, or that you might get another rude or harsh response from us. We are here to help and yet we are all human and have human faults like everyone else... ;)

angry, don't fret over it, dude. "no blood, no foul" as we used to say in high school basketball too many years ago. heck, angry, you've helped me numerous times. you are the one who talked me into getting certain components of my system. i've talked to you on msn numerous times. i wasn't put off by anything you said, angry. there's no need for an apology. i asked a friend of mine who has a full version of that pc check software and the manual about the 'time ticker' error. he looked in the manual and told me it concerns the pci bus timing. 'time ticker' is a strange wording for a pci bus issue, if you ask me. but anyway, the old board wil be shipped tomorrow. have a great thursday!! :)
