obsolete Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Hello, My DFI Lanparty Ultra B just quit working today. I was in windows browsing the web & the monitor went black. So I rebooted & then my system wouldn't post. Right now it's hung on the 4th diagnostic led which in the manual says it's a early program chipset register before post. I've tried clearing cmos, with battery out, etc........Holding insert upon boot but it keeps hanging on the 4th diagnostic led. I have had probably 5 DFI boards now & everyone of them has died in some way shape or form. My system has been or is completely solid/stable then one day it just doesn't post. My question is where do I go from here? Should I attempt hotflashing? I have several bios chips laying around from other dead DFI boards & also have another DFI board currently laying there dead to a very similiar problem. I'm not sure if this is a chipset problem or what?! System specs: AMD M-2500 (was at 2650 1.8v, everything stable, prime, etc....) Kingston PC3200 2x512 @ 230, 3.3v BH-5 11-2-2-2 CPC disabled 9800 Pro Antec True Control 550W PS/w solid rails checked with a multimeter CPU & chipset watercooled with one RBX & one dtekcustom NB block. Any input or help would be more then appreciated.......Thanks! -ºb§
Angry_Games Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 please send me an email and I will have Randy contact you Monday about getting your chip reflashed. You can also take this opportunity to send him the bios chips from your other DFI boards and have him reflash those also (can probably bring the other boards back to life!) obsolete Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Well I can personally hotflash the chip. I have another Nforce2 board I use for a backup rig (MSI K7N2-L). I've tried this with other boards that have had similiar problems. I'm not sure that will help.......
Angry_Games Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 lots of guys here hotflash their chips, and those that buy blank bios chips from elts_drac have to hotflash also. use the search function as there are many posts in many threads on how to hotflash
obsolete Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 I know how to hotflash. I just tried it & it did not work. I used the /tiny switch & also used an official DFI bios. The board still hangs on the same led .........
red930 Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Hmmm do you have RAM from a different rig that you could swap out? There was an issue with the 5/5 Bios not recognizing RAM and hanging up.... with just the 4th LED lit it could be related..... maybe try slower ram in the board? Thinkin out loud here
obsolete Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Thanks for the input. Unfortunately I'm not using the 5/5 bios & I have tried different memory. Believe me after 5 DFI motherboards I know every single thing to try. I wouldn't post a thread otherwise. I'm just at the end of my wits with these boards. Cost me more time & money then I could ever make up for. I think I'm just going to (finally) take my losses & walk away like I should have done a long time ago. Go with another brand. obsolete Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Alright, update here guys. In fairness to DFI I thought I'd report & say that the board works fine (for once). Turns out......Actually some what of a worse scenario. My 9800 Pro is dead, had her OC'ed to 450/380 & was still workin on it. How or what happend to the 9800 Pro I'm not quite sure. I've had quite a few DFI mobo's that have died on me so it was pretty much instinct to assume the problem layed there. Would like to say thanks Angry for the fast responses. -ºb§

soundx98 Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 class act obsolete. Nice to know it isn't always the board. Pretty sure that no RMA is coming your way on that card. Sorry to hear but I bet there is an X800 in your future:D
Popcicle Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 obsolete... The time and effort that you have given to the DFI boards that you have had is commendable. Don't be a stranger man. DFI-Street can use your abilities and knowledge. Pops.
