[Resolved] Help me POST after over-agrressive CMOS settings...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Yes, I know, what I've done is stupid. Shouldn't have happened. It's what I had coming to me after tinkering with my computer too late in the night.

Anyway, here's what happened:

I accidently exited CMOS without turning down my FSB, so I ended up booting my XP-M at 11x250 by accident, and my Infinity didn't like that.

So now I'm stuck. I took out the battery, unplugged everything, cleared CMOS all night (about 8 hours), and when I plugged it all back in, still no POST.

Would this kill the board? Or is there hope?

Odie :)

Questions:

First tricks

1st attempt. 1 finger on insert key, then power up (more fingers on insert key never seems to help  )

2nd attempt. yank 100 FSB jumper (makes it 100 FSB)

Post results and answers to below....

1. Which bios?

2. What chips are mushkin lvl1 (are they ch5

If I have done these correctly, then they did not work :(

1/31 should be okay (no funky bootup stuff like current bios (which I am of course using  ))

1. do fans/etc power up ?

2. what are keyboard lites doing when you turn on PSU and then board?

3. Sometimes the board 'thinks' for a while (up to 15 secs?) b4 figuring out what to do. Have you waited that long?

4. When you keep holding/pressing the power key (assuming stuff powers up) does it power off after about 4-5 secs?

5. Try holding down reset key for 5 secs then releasing after no boot but power on.

6. Sometimes even c-a-d (3 fingers) works :shake:

Well,

Not sure what I did, but I'm typing from my system right now!

I tried a technique I read in another post where the CMOS clear setting is tripped briefly about 50 times. I did that, and then left it in the clear setting with the battery removed for a few more hours, and it booted right up!

Thanks Mikee for your help. I hope I won't be back for this!

Odie :)
