Angry_Games Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 DVD+R DL DVD+R DL or called DVD+R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD+R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 GB or around 8 540 000 000 bytes (called DVD-9) and a double sided dual layered disc 15.9 GB or around 17 080 000 000 bytes (called DVD-18). DVD+R9 See DVD+R DL
elts_drac Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 there is no question...it should be the NEC ND-2510A...these are the most accurate burners you can get irregardless of the $$$. I have the little brother to that drive and I've burned 600+gb on it and NEVER burned a coaster. They are the same drive but the more expensive version comes with roxio dvd-authoring. They are the SAME drive....
Craftwise Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Dual layer is good for the future but not at the moment. Theres no disks really available yet. Seen a review that the disks,( at least when first released) were approaching 10 bucks apeace. Besides, the Dual Layer - will be out in a few months. Or what I would prefer Dual Layer +/-. But for 80-90 bucks you still cant go wrong. BTW those dual disks only burn at 2.5X at best. Still way better to use 4X or 8X standard DVD-/+-R. On a side note, the only real thing I would use them for is to copy movies at best quality. Seems kinda foolish to use a 3-5 dollar Dual Layer disk to copy data when a 40 cent DVD 4.7gb will do just as well...
Angry_Games Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 speed isnt an issue as i have multiple machines and the burner is in the server, which no one uses (other than to run as the game server on the lan hehe) but after looking around like you, i noticed that its only the +r that does DL right now, and while i use only +r exclusively, im in agreement that its just too new at this time. the NEC 2500A DVD burner is awesome. I think im going to wait a while and see what else comes down the pipe. I installed dvd burners for customers back when they couldnt wait and had to have them for $350. I waited until two weeks ago when the latest and greatest were only $80. Just like i waited for Radeon 9700 Pro's to come down under $200 etc.
Guest Psychosis Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 I also just bought a NEC-2500A for $72 at newegg and this drive is just awesome. Plus, it can be flashed to a 2510 with a hacked firmware if the need arises.
Albert the Fish Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Look here. According to this link it is possible to relash the firmware in your 2500 to make it a 2510A. Same hardware different software. Now I havn't tried it. I can't get hold of the media. Look:- Here and: Here And finally this is a link to the firmware itself. Good luck Keep us posted it you try it. *Albert the Fish*
autoMATTic Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 yeah no need to buy the 2510. http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=25904
Angry_Games Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 you guys do realize that flashing to hacked firmware instantly voids your warranty? i would rather sell my original and spend the $10 to get the 2510A and not have to void any warranty
elts_drac Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Flashed mine and my old roomates ND-2500A's (one MAR04 the other APR04) and both flashed fine, though I don't have any DL9 disks to try yet they still burn CD/DVD +- just fine. MikeZ101 Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Flashed my 2500A before I ever burnt any disc on it. Now I might accually use the DL feature if i can find discs for less then 10 bucks each.
