SATA + IDE problems

Recommended Posts

This is a weird situation. When I first got the LPB, I installed the SATA drive in my sig no problem. Then I shut down and plugged in my 120gb Seagate storage drive. Again, no problem whatsoever. I have been running this setup for about a week now with no problems at all. All of a sudden, last night, when I have the IDE drive plugged in the system will not boot. It goes through POST and the screen where you pick safe mode or last known good config comes up every time then just reboots. Now when I unplug the drive it seems to work fine????

Anybody know what could be causing this?

do you have the OS on the boot SATA drive? If so, do you have your BIOS set to accept the SATA drive as the boot drive?

note that Boot Other Device is always to be disabled

edit: ps, make sure that hte SATA drive is hdd-0, and not the IDE drive.

I will see if I can free up a sata and IDE drive to test this on the INF (LPB is currently running as my internal server and cannot be reconfigured, but the INF board is the exact same as the LPB so shouldnt give me any differences)

I am new to SATA drives, how do I make sure the SATA drive is drive 0? I have the IDE drive set as slave and that shows up as primary slave. Well atleast it did when it was working. It did not matter whether I had boot other device enabled or disabled.

I will try switching the boot other device option after my machine is finished priming to qualify for the toaster :P
