sparkie34 Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Hi guys. I got my new raptor today and i can't intall it because my floppy drive isn't working. I've tried 3 different floppy drives and also 3 different cables out of other systems that i know they work in. Any ideas on what to look for? elts_drac Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Since I can't look @ my bios screen since my system isn't up, do you see an enable legacy device support feature in the bios. Sometimes this being disabled will keep the floppy from working. Does it light up @ all trying to access the disk or just nothing period? Have you tried using a 4pin to the floppy power convertor just to make sure it isn't the power connection?
sparkie34 Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 when i the floppy tries to read the light comes on and after 10 seconds of so it goes back out. when i enable verify floppy at boot in the bios on my post screen it comes up with floppy error(40)
elts_drac Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 Have you tried using a usb floppy? Are these new drives and disks or just ones you've had laying around? Do those floppy drives work on the pc you are using now?
sparkie34 Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004 they are all working floppy drives that came out of working machines. disk is also ok. tried it in my other system and fired right up.
RGone Posted June 16, 2004 Posted June 16, 2004  ... found the obvious and the not so obvious. 1. bios not set for floppy. 2. cable bad. 3. floppy drive bad. 4. mobo i/o bad 5. turn off quick post as the floppy may not respond quickly enough. 6. Overclocking variable. If the drive light is on all the time flip then end at the drive over. If the correct mobo end is nOt at the mobo; it will give this error. I did not see when your problems began. Couple of very obvious causes shown and few not so obvious fixes. Sincerely, RGone... PS: one other thing I have noticed on my own regularly used floppies doing so much bios flashing is that the floppies need to be re-written quite regular as they sit on my bench and are always being handled and moved. The sign of this is they are accessed and not read. RGone...Again...
