Jacket Posted May 18, 2003 Posted May 18, 2003 Sorry for the l337 sp34K there... I just got the 500MB 25-minute E3-shown presentation for HL2 and it looks AMAZING!!! I would say that it's going to be muuuch better than DOOM]I[ as far as immersion is concerned. I have seen and played a bit of D3 and it doesn't look like it has near the amount of interactivity of HL2. Also, D3 only has a piddly length trailer that they just released. I know that these games are 2 very different games and to compare them graphically is unfair. However, I find that id always tends to make their characters very rounded and stocky. However, in HL2, the characters are very rigid and cut. It looks like both games are doing a great job with flexibility (rag-doll and other environment interactions). In the HL2 presentation, it shows a gun that can pick up objects in the environment and then shoot them straight ahead. It shows how bullet placement in wood planks affects how it breaks. It shows the awesome (awesome, indeed!!) facial expressions of the G-man that are capable because he has ~40 virtual muscles in his face. Freakin A! D3 has a pretty lighting scheme, an old story, and pumped up graphics. Oh, decisions, decisions!! Perhaps if id would show us just a bit more of D3 in the form of a tech presentation like the HL2 movie then we would have something to back up their position. Jacket Posted May 18, 2003 Posted May 18, 2003 (edited) y'know, fileplanet is a whole lot nicer when you're at college and know a guy that already paid for subscription and so you split the payments between about 14 people ($.50/person is a nice price for fast dls). I'm at school for the summer and now that everyone's gone, I dled the 506MB file in 40 minutes... eat that =P) Edited May 18, 2003 by LinuXProX
TiKiGoD Posted May 18, 2003 Posted May 18, 2003 ya know, its real nice when you know this rich kid who has a subscription, and lets you use his account and doesn't make you pay...

RVE Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 He was hinting at Jacket hooking us up with the Fileplanet stuff... Especially since we haven't found another source for that gigatic HL2 movie yet.
andrusk Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 you mean it's nice when you don't have to pay for stuff thats free just about everywhere else? usually it is but more often than not its virtually impossible to find it anywhere else. RVE Posted May 24, 2003 Posted May 24, 2003 You can go to FilePlanet now and download all those E3 trailers. Even the huge 587MB HalfLife 2 movie!!! I'm d/l it right now. They even have a Halo 2 trailer, and a killer Doom 3 trailer. The Doom 3 trailer is wicked awesome. A ton of gameplay footage so you can see all the killer graphics and lighting effects. Looks like the final product should be pretty nerve wrecking and scare the crap outta you! The Halo 2 trailer shows Master Chief going akimbo! **Update** Good lord! I just finished watching that UBER HalfLife 2 trailer, I have to say that the graphics and physics engine are absolutely amazing! Can't wait for a Counter-Strike with this new engine...drool...
