1800 Cooling Problems

Recommended Posts

AthlonXP 1800 - not OCed

Soyo KT400 Dragon

Volcano 11 - partly lapped

Arctic Alumina - well applied

Xaser III with all 7 case fans running and nice airflow

My thermal probe running to my hardcano under my CPU gives me 37.1c, and my BIOS on die diode gives me 45-55c roughly, can't check right now, typing.

Which one of these should I trust more?

What is a good temp for my items?

OCNZ has horrible helpers, so I came here.

Once ive got a few replies and answers, ill update and inform you off my situation a bit more.

Well just to let you know you are only supposed to put a very thin layer of thermal compound on the heatsink. The readings from the hardcano seem close to what I would think with a V11 and a CPU that is not OCed so thats probably the closest one.

Extremely thin layer, could be thinner, but I suck at evening it all out. Thinner then last time atleast.

Well, just found out my Hardcano is screwing up, I think its the probe though, but ill get back here soon with my BIOS and Probe temps.

Also, If he just applied the thermal grease, it may take a few days to start cooling down. I put my Tt Vol 9 on my XP1700 with AS3, and I was running about 50 Deg. for a few days, then It decided to settle at 38 Deg. full load

YAY!

I fixed my thermal probe, and redid my Heatsink installation, thinner layer of paste, lapped a bit more, good duct between copper and fan etc.

My computers slowely mutating into a thermaltake mascot, I have so much Tt crap in there.

Eitehr way, my BIOS gives me 47c, and my probe gives me 37c, I dont know what ones right, but they are both under 50c, so who cares?

Now dance my people, dance!

It can 'survive' up to 90c, but 67c is really bad, you should be aiming for 40-50c, which I can't get to easily.

Also, my athlon is really old, and according to a friend of mine, the 0.18microns run a lot hotter then the new 0.13microns, is this true anyone?

Yes... very true...

My palomino ran at about 43 or 44c full load, but my Tbred 2400+ averages about 33 or 34c at full load...

with a lapped V9

and in regards to lapping... don't just partly do it.. this can actually harm your results. read the guids and take your time...

I spent close to 3 hours working on mine...

go in steps...

it is just like overclocking, if you go too fast or take short cuts. you will pay in the long run
