DeltaForce Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I have 2GB of GSKILL DDR2 800 memory, similar to this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231088, I've overclocked it a little bit. I noticed its only 420 mhz, I'm kind of a noob to RAM but i thought that was a little low compared to others. So my question is my memory out of date and i need to upgrade or is it fine? I do quite a bit of gaming so if i do have to upgrade what would be the best to get, i was aiming for about 4GB if i do upgrade. Repr Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 420mhz dual channel would make it 840mhz. not all that bad. my old kingston hyperX wouldnt get above 830. sure there are betters, but its not too terrible.
hardnrg Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 you say it's "similar to this"... first thing you should do is find out EXACTLY what it is (Part Number in the SPD tab of CPU-Z should be a clue)... then start setting the timings/voltage manually... 5-6-6-31-2T is not going to be the rated timings on any DDR2 RAM
paulktreg Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 You are running a E6420 at 2.7GHz, a 8800GTS and 2Gb of memory and I presume Windows XP? Quite a powerful system. Is overclocking your memory going to make that much difference during gaming? I would have thought not but somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Regards Paul
