Screen Corruption On Laptop

Recommended Posts

Having some problems with an Acer 3050 laptop, the screen goes corrupt after using Firefox for a few minutes. I've tried creating a new profile and removing extensions, neither of those worked. I've already checked the CPU and RAM for stability, both of which checked out fine. The laptop has integrated graphics, which seemed okay after testing. The only thing I haven't tested extensively is the HDD, thinking it couldn't be the source of the problem, it made it through formatting and reinstalling Windows with no problem at all.

I'm lead to think the problem is entirely software, but I can't work out exactly what software is causing it. Could this be a specific problem with the integrated graphics (or the driver) and Mozilla?

Anyone who had this problem, please chime in.

Hardware details:

AMD Sempron 3400+

ATI Xpress 1100m

512mb DDR2 533

Hitachi 40gb HDD

Windows XP MCE 2005 SP3

Maybe it's me but i just can't seem to understand the information you posted about the problem. When did you start using Firefox? Did the problem start before or after the firefox installation? Is it doing it only when you use Firefox or on other applications as well? Can you take a picture with a DC? When you notice the screen corruption what do you normally do (i.e. Hold the power button until shutdown, close laptop for hibernation?) Which drivers are you using for your IG? Firefox version? Is the screen corruption occurring consequetively or it varies?

Sorry, it was a bit of random confusion. The problem I've concluded is Firefox, the system is otherwise fine. I just need to find out what's causing Firefox to corrupt the display. Version of Firefox is 2.0.14, display driver is a generic one from Windows Update based on 8.2 Catalyst. Screen corruption happens after using Firefox for 5-10 minutes, after which the laptop is shut off manually.

Hardware all checks out fine. I'll try and snag a picture of the corruption next time it happens.
