airman Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 definitely don't run your harddrive on the same ide channel as optical drives. i've always had that rule of thumb.
souichi Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 the motherboard I have supports two IDE's, so one is for the optical drive and the other is for the two hard drives thanks again for the suggestions
Waco Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 definitely don't run your harddrive on the same ide channel as optical drives. i've always had that rule of thumb. Ideally you'd only have a single device on either channel, but yes, optical drives mixed with hard drives is generally not a great idea. Comp Dude2 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I dunno why you bought a new IDE CD and hard drive. SATA is the way to go for a number of reasons
souichi Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 (edited) My old computer before it crapped out was using IDE on the mobo. So I figured I might as well just save some money and just use the old HDs and buy a mobo that supports 2 IDEs. The 300 gig HD is only a year old, so it seemed like a waste to buy SATA at the time. The optical and the HDs are on seperate ribbons and I made sure the mobo I bought had 2 IDEs placements, one for HDs and one for the optical drive. EDIT: I thought the SATA optical drive was more expensive and didn't check newegg >< I'm gonna return the IDE drive and buy a SATA one.
