Tommy6860 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Hey All, I am about ready to get a fairly high end gaming rig here, and I am think between getting in 9800GX2 or getting two 9800GTXs in SLI. Which would be better though both have the same memory capacity in total, as I am looking for more video power, the cost is not an issue? Just in case you ask, what I am getting is: Intel Quad-core 9650 extreme 6gigs PC6400 DDR2/800 RAM Vista ultimate 64-bit 2x 320gig WD 7200r (still thinking of the 150gig 10k-rpm though) Thermaltake 1000w PSU
Repr Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 i would wait out a week or 2 and see what the Radeon 4850, 4870 and nvidia GTX260 and 280 are gonna do. ati might not beat the 9800GTX, but itll make it cheaper, and nvidia will beat it for sure btw, why 6GB of ram? why not an 8GB kit? As I said in the earlier post, cost is not an issue. At this point, I don't know how much more power the newer cards you mention, would warrant a wait. Anyway, I could ask the same question, why not 6gigs as it is plenty anyway. Either case, did you have an answer for my first question? Boldeagle Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 (edited) I am no expert but it makes sense that 2 x 9800"GTX" will beat a single 9800"GX"2. Here is a link on the specs for both cards which may put things in perspective. It seems both companies are having some issues with Drivers for their High End cards in SLI or CrossX: nVidia Chips Comparison Table Hope this helps. Get a different PSU (Thermaltake are average at best for PSU's) and make sure it has 4xPCI-e plugs. Look at this for PSU's, you want I think at least 1k output: http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=63579 http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088 Edited June 14, 2008 by Boldeagle
