diki001 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Hi guys, I can already hear all the yawns and groans that will be uttered over this question, so I appologise in advance! I keep hearing conflicting stories in the threads of a lot of different websites, I run XP and cannot see myself switching to Vista anytime soon (my dads P.c. that he bought from a very reputable mainstream retailer has all kinds of software crashes with third party software, so NO thankyou, not until they fix those issues) NOW we get to the question, what will happen to all us XP users if Direct X10 the so called future of performance gameplay graphics on the P.c and Microsoft's flagship GPU driver database is not backwards compatible. is there anyone out there who knows what they intend doing? I dont want to feel pressured into an operating system switch just so I can play the latest games released that reqire DX10. Please someone, put my mind at rest <_<
Fireonice Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 No game will ever require you to have dx10. All dx10 does is add graphics features. Just like dx9 games could run on dx8 cards without the extra eye candy dx9 had to offer.
WhenKittensATK Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 From my experience with Vista, it works fine for daily use and gaming. They have improved somewhat. I had a lot of debugging and fixing to do when I installed it, but they were usually easy fixes. I went back to XP Pro, 4got what why I did. I think it was one of my programs didn't want to work with Vista. As Fireonice said, Dx10 as of now is basically just add-on special effects. It's not life changing. Crytek's Dx9 hacked Very High Setting, looked exactly like Vista's Dx10 Very High setting. Excluding the extra particals and dust and etc. But visually they were almost identical. Xp is a more than capable platform to run the new generation of games, why make this the only version of DX that isnt operating system backwards compatible? to aid flagging Vista sales? Fireonice Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Yes to increase vista sales. Â The thing is thou if your computer can run dx10 games with decent frame rates then you can run vista flawlessly.
WhenKittensATK Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Yea, they basically tried to make Vista a gaming OS, but failed. There is a rumor that Microsoft is bring Dx 10 to XP later on in the future. I'm more interested in Windows 7 Vienna, Microsoft has it dated for release in the year 2010.

Please someone, put my mind at rest <_<  Honestly, I work fixing computers(as do many on the forums) and I can tell you flat out that half the crap loaded on by a mainstream retailer is the problem with your fathers computer, not Vista  I have a total of 6 Vista machines up and running and have NO problems from them whatsoever(2 64bit and 4 32bit)  That being said, uninstall all the extra bloat Dell or HP or Sony or whoever your father bought the PC from had put on there or start from scratch with a fresh install of Vista and you will likely be MUCH happier  With that said, like others have said, expect games to be backwards compatible for years down the road(HL2 can run off DX7 if that gives any sort of showing as to how long youll likely have)
Waco Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Yes to increase vista sales. Or, you know, because of the totally different architecture. Nah...couldn't be that.
