Remind me again why you are not pressing chargers against your ex? Don't let crying and begging get her out of the consequences of her actions, she'll never learn that way, but then again it's your decision.

by the way i have been reading these forums for a while so i finally decided to join, so, hey everyone

yea man i dont need to worie bout geting kicked out man wat is it with half the diy streat come on here actin like they know most of this friggin comunity

Ouch, that really hurt! I've perused every post in this thread three times now and I'm not sure who said what to get you upset. But I can assure you that every one I've seen here that is a transplant from DIY is trying their best to fit in and add positive contributions to the site.

I can only echo what has been said already. Trying to plan a future-proofed rig that won't be outdated in six months is futile.

Build your PC based on your finances and pc usage patterns.

For me a simple X38 rig with 4gb of RAM, E8400 and a good (but old 8800GTS 640mb card) does everything that I want and need at this time. All reading points me to 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008 being stellar points in time for significant performance improvements - especially in the area of gpu's.

But the reality is I still have an old ASRock/VIA chipset board with only 256mb of RAM that is capable of web browsing, answering emails and replying to forum topics that works just fine. And it is only running an old P4 2.66ghz processor - mainly used for FAH.

I won't delve into the personal aspects of your reasoning for upgrading your PC at this particular point in time of your life. That is entirely your business. Ultimately it is your finances, your credit and your hard work, so by my reckoning, if buying a new PC right now helps you get through this crappy time, go for it.

Dude, relax. They are only giving their advice, which I support. They aren't "acting" like they know "this" communtiy because you know what? They are part of this community just like every one else. Honestly, maybe they haven't been at the OCC for several years, but they (former diy street members) are OCC members. We are now ONE. The merger has brought a lot of new life into the forums, which is just great.

I think someone said it already, but take the money you can now, buy a decent rig. Something that will fit your needs for now, and bank the rest of the money in a 2 year GIC (um, i'm canadian so thats like a long term fixed rate investment). Then in 2 years you got like maybe $300-400 more dollars then you started with and you can upgrade from there. You've also got the money there if you really really needed to take it out cause some random life thing happens :)

Also, are you sure buying a computer with loaned money is the best bet right now? Sorry I asked that, but after working at a capital one call center for like a week, stuff like that scares me. If i've crossed a line, then just forget this post :)

Seeing as how you're bound and determined to build the best computer possible, I'd go with something along the lines of a Core 2 Quad Extreme, 8 gigs of ram, dual 9800gx2 video cards. The gx2's will get faster too, in the near future, as nvidia brings better drivers to them. Or maybe not dual 9800gx2's, but triple 9800gtx's. Something like that.

She might not be, and this is an attempt to get money, from what you have said, I wouldn't put it past her

I think he meant new gf, so not the same as the one that wrecked his stuff. Or i could have read that wrong :(
