nightsider Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 hi all im just in the process of designing a killer gaming system, looks like im going to have to get a loan out to cover most of what my ex recked when she upp'd and left so i thought if im getting a loan why not include a killer pc. these are the specs im batting around the field at the minute. Asus Striker II Formula NF780i 3xSLi 775 PCI-E 2.0 DDR2 667/800/1066Mhz, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, Yorkfield Core, S775, 2.66GHz, 1333MHz, 12MB Cache, Retail Assassin's Creed 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 PC2-8500 (1066), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15, EPP, DHX 1GB XFX 9800 GX2, XXX, PCI-E 2.0, Mem 2100MHz, GDDR3, GPU 680MHz, Stream 256, 2x DL DVI/HDMI Ideazon MERC Stealth Gaming Keyboard, USB 2.0, Wired, Black Razer Diamondback 3G 1800dpi, Blue Frost [RZ01-00020600-R3M1] USB Mouse Coolermaster RC-1000 *New V2* Cosmos Silver/Black Silent Aluminium Full Tower Case w/o PSU im going to need a PSU , monitor as well as some speakers for this rig, feel free to add or change anything in the list and im looking to set the budget at
Great_Gig Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) My pick for the PSU would be a Corsair TX750W and the monitor a Dell 2408WFP or Asus MK241H. The ASUS is the better gaming one, as the response time is 2ms and the Dell a good all rounder, that wins reviews for a passtime. It's build quality I think is excellent. The Cosmos case has good cable management, so I reckon you don't really need an HX (modular) Corsair. The rest looks pretty sound? (IMHO) GG Edited June 8, 2008 by Great Gig
Nedlinin Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I wish I had that kind of money 0o Question though: Why spend the money on that 3x SLI motherboard if you are getting a 9800GX2(single) -- Seems unlikely that you will upgrade to 2 more of those before the whole thing becomes obsolete Also, you probably already know.. but PC Power and Cooling for the PSU is hard to beat when going with a monster machine -- Otherwise, I tried out a Corsair PSU in a friends build recently and they arent too bad(Moderate build though -- 650watt PSU powering an E6600, 8800GTS, 2 HDs and 2 Optical drives) Anyways, Looks to be a badass PC

TsM Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) i cant find any other half decent company other than Scan.co.uk in the UK I find that http://www.overclockers.co.uk are good and whilst looking for a new pc build myself i came across this website http://www.awd-it.com which seems cheaper than overclockers. Great_Gig Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 i cant find any other half decent company other than Scan.co.uk in the UK Ignore my ramblings if you have already tried these: Ebuyer.com Aria.co.uk Dabs.com Novatech.co.uk and some bits from Quietpc.com I shop around a lot, but mostly use ebuyer, free delivery over

My_Inner_Fred Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I'd suggest a OCZ 750w Psu. $3000 for a pc I could get a great pc for just $1500 and save the rest for upgrading it later!!
hardnrg Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 lol thats quite a list mmm, there are "only" 63 retailers in the UK section of the OCC list... if you limit yourself to one retailer, you are only ripping yourself off... I generally shop at eBuyer, OcUK, TheCoolingShop, Aria, LambdaTek, PerformancePCs, but also many others (like almost all the ones listed here on OCC)

kingdingeling Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 How often have you talked about building this rig but then don't? You have no money, no job (afaik) and your girlfriend messed up your appartment (if that's true). If you seriously need a loan, get the smallest you can and get your life underway and stop screwing with computers (an expensive hobby to have)!!!!
