VenuS Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) Hey guys, i really mess that up, the problem is that i had this empty shortcut of VirtualDub in my menu and wanted to fix it. I don't know why i didn't just unpin and repin it, but somehow, i associated all exe aplications to open with Vdub. How stupid that can be, huh?! Now, even to run regedit.exe i got the Vdub pops up. Every exe i try, Vdub pops up. In the folder/tools/folder options/file types i don't see the "exe" associated with anything, so i can't remove it or clean it. Can i somehow fix this? Syngensmyth Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 This may help fix the associations that XP had originally. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_easy_file.htm
ClayMeow Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I'm sorry, but this is one of the funniest things I've heard in a while.
VenuS Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) Hey Smyth, hey Clay! Well, actually it is very funny, i can't believe i could sooo fruck it up !! Heheheh Everytime i remember that, its like what the heck, dude? hhehehe and it puts a huge smile on ma face. After all these years was sitting there afraid to reboot!! Hehhehehe..... yeap...that's funny. Smyth, i tryed to do what was said in the link and its fruck it up a little bit more ... After that every exe i was trying to run was asked by the security pop up if i actualy want to run it. When i hit "Run" then its just loop it self to the same question and nothing was run ... Hurray Bill ! I could run programs thou, through task manager, holding "ctrl" and click "run new task" but that wasn't the way. Then i actually gave up and reboted to see what would look like this amaizing never-crack-my-a-s-s-looped-popup windows xp. Didn't felt right to start figuring out how to fix it, just restored my imaged C: partition and that's about it. Syngensmyth Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 The real question is how the heck could that even happen? Image restore is a wonderful thing.
ClayMeow Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Alright, I've been trying to emulate this, but can't find where to do this. Exe's, nor shortcuts give me any option to open with a different program (as it shouldn't).
Puck Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 If it was not listed under file types in folder options all you had to do was add new file type, *.exe, and choose to open with explorer.exe(not internet explorer's iexplorer.exe or whatever, just windows explorer). red930 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nice link that Syngensmyth posted. Might come in handy some day so I saved the text, BAT file and directions. Bill
