Syngensmyth Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) I think there is a question in here somewhere. I'm finally coming out of the stone age and setting up the 965p-ds3 and E6400 I bought used some time ago from Technodan. It works flawlessly. No boot issues so far but haven't pushed it much. 410x8=3280 820 on Ram set @ 2 (1:1 in Intel language I guess) GSkill F2 6400 OCCT 1 hr pass never breaks 50C and Idles 30's C 1.375 Vcore I'm happy with this but am close to the limit without dividing and/or adding Volts somewhere. (I just went for it so don't know if it is RAM or CPU limit) I'm guessing RAM. If stay here life is fine but just curious about that green grass over the fence. So my question is the mysterious strap. Is that number simply determined by the OP as a multiple of other numbers? Is the strap number reported by some software somewhere? I am assuming that at 410 and 1:1 I am not experiencing a strap issue? How are people posting these crazy high RAM clocks with 800 RAM on Core 2's? (bigger question I suppose) Or maybe it isn't really happening and I'm just confused. Ste Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Well the higher the RAM Clock the more voltage and looser timmings are required. At any rate, the one thing that would limit you is going to be front side bus, since your already over 1.6 Ghz, so push onwards and see how far it can go.. I am surprised that you have not had to mess with voltages yet.
Syngensmyth Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) Oh I have all the voltages up somewhat from stock. I am just nicely below my personal 50C comfort level and now need more if I wish to go further. Then I started to wonder about the strap (NorthBridge witchery) and where to find that number anywhere. Ste Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 There is no set number where ones FSB still go no further, every board is different, though you may want to consider throwing a better cooler, better thermal paste and a Fan on that northbridge, that will improve stability once you past 1.64 Ghz FSB. Syngensmyth Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Ok, well I got that out of my system. Dividing RAM to 3 and had to clear CMOS which they cleverly positioned UNDER my video card cooler. (multiple new names for Gigabyte omitted) I'm liking 3280 better now.
