Are you using a third party application to control your desktop wallpaper? Or are you using the standard Windows Desktop Utility?

Where are you storing your desktop wallpapers? By default Windows stores them in;

C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper

I am right clicking, and selecting set as dekstop background, and that folder does't exist, i thought it may be due to deleting the recycle bin shortcut, but i restored it and it's the same...

recreate the folder in the directory i specified

move or copy all of your wallpaper pictures into that folder

close the folder and reopen

make sure that Windows has created a "thumbs.db" database file - you'll need to change your folder view options so that you can see hidden files and folders as well as system files and folders

now use the desktop display properties utility to set your background - select the browse button and navigate to any particular picture file contained in the wallpaper file and try to set it as the desktop background

cheers
