Intel P4 2.4ghz Or Amd Barton 2500+

Recommended Posts

recently i saw amd thoroughbred 2400+ for 99 bucks retail and then decide to get barton core 2500+ for 129bucks but even overclocked to like 2.2ghz is what i have seen other people do why not spend extra 30 bucks and get p4 2.4ghz. i am undecided between amd and intel i have always heard amd better price but the p4 in this case is running faster at stock clock speed for just a bit more in price. i was planning on getting barton2500+ but then was thinking why not spend extra 30 bucks and get like 600 mhz more stock speeds and overclock p4 2.4

anyone's input is helpful

i need to decide on which way to go. i just bought brand new innovatek water cooling kit off ebay for 100 bones more than half retail price so i will have good cooling to overclock either processor.

HELP HELP HELP

WHICH ROUTE SHOULD I TAKE P4 OR BARTON 2500+

thanks

as said hundreds of times before in this and other forums : AMD IS BETTER BECAUSE THEY ARE FASTER, NOT CHEAPER. CHEAP IS A NICE ADDITION HOWEVER.

do i need to piss away an hour of my life to drag up hundreds of benchmarks to get my point across? i sure hope not, or else i would have to kick someone in the balls.

thanks for your input mercury you have the same mobo i am thinking of getting is it all everyone says it is or disapointing. i read some bad reviews from new egg butt their was way more good reviews. you think the barton 2500+ and the asus board is a good way to go

anywhere you suggest i get ram i was thinking of pc2700 or maybe 3200 one 512 stick to start off and maybe another in the future performance depending. what brands or models of ram u reccomend and where is it half way cheap i want some good quality ram maybe corsair xms or geil but nothing that is way too expensive how do you like your watercooling from innovatek. weird you have almost same setup i was planning to get

thanks dude

umm.. no offense man, but tomshardware.com just gave a review for the new amd processor vs the new p4 processor.. and the amd did not win in any of the categories over the pentium. I posted an image of the more important gaming benchmark, but if you are still unconvinced you can look for the full story at

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030513/index.html

i really dont like dissing on people but your points sound more like that of a fanboy than someone that actually looks at reviews of the unaltered product. Either way you are looking at a pretty fast processor, but i am tired of people ripping on intel just because they happened to buy amd.

thanks for the replies although the intel's seem to be overclocking very well these days as i seen a couple people oc'd 2.4 to 3.0 that sounds pretty sweet but still am undecided

I would go for the 2500+ .. because i want to try amd, and because i still think you can OC amd higher then the intel. but when you're not going to be OCing, then the P4 would be better, because it runs better at stock then the amd.. (in some parts) :)

If you want mad OC's you can do like the guys at HardOCP with their Koolance Exos water cooling kit. They used one of the new P4 2.4Ghz. One with H/T and 800mhz FSB and they were able to OC by over 1 GHz. They went from a 2.4 to over 3.5Ghz.

If they truly didn't want you to overclock, then why would they allow other mobo manufacturers to use their chipsets? Wouldn't they restrict Intel CPU usage to only Intel mobo's that way they had absolute control on the possibility of overclocking? Seeing as Intel's are multiplier locked, yet they can still produce good overclocks simply with FSB settings, I say they make some high-quality stuff. It's not that they hate it when you do that, because the majority of people who buy Intel's don't know how to OC. I believe AMD is are more overclocker friendly becasue if they can cater to the "enthusiast" market then they can grab a foothold on a market that Intel isn't too fond of, thus helping them stay in business.
