What Cpu Heatsink Should I Use???

My system is as follows; Cooler Master Stacker 830 Evo case with a 1000W Real Power Pro PSU, Q9450, dual 3870's in CF, 4 hard drives in dual RAID, 8 120mm LED fans, Blu-ray player, DVD burner, media card reader with floppy, RAID controller card, 4GB (2x2) DDR2 1066 RAM, Gigabyte X38 Motherboard, HT Omega Claro Plus+ sound card, Logitech WebCam, front panel LCD fan controller, 2 external hard drives, keyboard, mouse, 28" LCD monitor and 42" LCD HDTV.

I don't know much about the ZeroTherm, but all of the others are excellent coolers. You might want to add one to the list;

There is a post currently on this page where someone was looking for slimmer 120mm fans for their 830 door because their TRUE wouldn't fit with fans installed in the door. I said in that thread that I had seen a friends 830 with the door shut on a TRUE. My memory must have failed me when I said that. I was over there today and he has the fan door removed. I thought I remembered it fitting, but my pal said we never got it closed right.

 

Google found me a few other people saying big coolers don't fit in the 830 with the fan door attached. Just one example is the bottom post on this page http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=511461#post5054131 . So, YMMV. When looking at coolers to fit in your 830, you'll have to figure out based on both length and width whether or not you'll be able to 1) Keep your fan door installed - or 2) Keep your fan door installed but run with one fan removed. The other option would be to do what my pal did and just take the fan door out. If you remove the fan door, you might think about getting an extra fan bracket for the front. As I recall, they only come with one but can fit two.

Thanks! That is a big help! I have heard from numerous people that the Ultra-120 is huge and that the size can be a problem. So I don't think I will go with that one. I have many good options to choose from and I am only doing light OC'ing anyway so I'm sure the Ultra-120 isn't necessary to begin with.

for moderate overclocking, a large heatsink can reap silence benefits...

I can totally recommend the Vendetta 2 guys, she is big but very effective and has a little edge over the Tuniq Tower and the TRUE 120. The HDT (Heatpipe Direct Touch) design is a definite improvement.

Size being an issue I think the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro will surprise you with how good it is, I had one before the Vendetta 2 and it held its own even with a moderate overclock.

the 120 fits fine in my Stacker 830 with the door panel fans.

you just leave out the fan directly above the heatsink.

i have dual 130 CFM fans mounted on mine in push pull.

i have yet to see any cooler that comes close to the performance.

my QX6800 idles at 35C running at 4 ghz and 1.55 volts

it will hit about 60C under full load on all 4 cores.

And at $37 SHIPPED off newegg keeping a 3.0 Q6600 under 42C Folding + gaming I think I'll take the HDT S1283 anyday. I'm actually tempted to buy another.

If by rebadged you mean its a stand up cooler with HDT then I suppose yeah lol but it is hardly a Xigmatek with OCZ written on it either.

I liked the way this review was executed click They didn't use the fans that came with the heatsinks they used one for all and the vendetta 2 came out on top but only by a small margin. I actually was going to get the S1283 because of the lack of availability of the V2 but right at the last minute they came back in stock, 9 times out of 10 I always go for the component thats been out for a while so I took a chance and I wasn't disappointed. Either way the V2, TRU120/E, Tuniq Tower or S1283 are awesome coolers and all deserve to be on your list of choices when choosing air cooling or even recommending them

I do need a second cooler for my other Q66 rig so I might give the S1283 a try, it is a pretty good price ATM. For looks though I think the Tuniq Tower is hard to beat if you have a windowed case.
