for me i like XP better for gaming and looks if you have used XP or have a friend who has it try before you buy hell go to the local comp store and mess with prebuilt systems that are running XP and play with it for a bit

ive used both pretty extensivly and xp is just a prettier 2000, they are both awesome operating systems, but xp is a little easier to use, not that either of them are hard, so i would go with xp pro.

it depends on your definition of easy and pretty.... if you're going

for the AOL definition of easy to use, in which you have to know nothing at

all about computers to find it easy, ya I guess it's easy... for the rest of us

it just makes it harder.... (I know you can switch back to the classic style in xp

but Im just saying.... and also Im refering to some of the interface changes in

explorer which piss me off...)

as for pretty, to me it's just ugly as all hell (again I know you can change

back to classic)...

but ya, Im recomending Win2k, Ive tried using xp many times and maybe once Ive

stuck w/ it for months on end but once I switched back to win2k things just seemed

to be right to me...

i agree i like to use the classic interface in xp, i hate the fisher price look, and by easier i meant things like networking, you dont need to put as much effort into networking with winxp as you do with win2k plus i like the explorer changes. all in all i havent found anything about win2k that xp cant do equally as well or better so i would say stick with xp.

if you want a pretty "mac-like" operating system with slightly worse performance, get xp

if you want the more complex geeky OS with best performance in a OS available, get 2000

ive used both OSes quite a bit, and win2kpro is a much more powerful OS for the hardcore, XP performs worse, but is good for computer n00bs

andrusk, i think you are slightly mistaken... in winXP, it *is* easy to network, you only have to "click on the button and do the wizard and it does it for you" which would make it seem simple... in win2k, you just plug everything in, and it works 90% of the time... no setting manipulation whatsoever (sometimes you have to disable and reenable your network connection)

ive tested both on a wide variety of systems, windows xp has NEVER gotten a better bench than 2000

:bah: i wish you would stop blowing smoke mercury, Just because youve tested something yourself and you prefer one thing better than the other doesnt mean that your opinion is the definitave answer to all of lifes questions :bah:

and this quote is a bit contridictory dont you think? nevermind dont tell me what you think cause i dont care.

Ive used both. I like them both. But i like the fetures that xp has and i like the sability of 2k (both are stable). I Would go with 2k if you want more network fetures. Xp lacks some. If you want more looks then go w/ xp. By the way any one got a version of 2k they can give me i lost the one i had. I got XP pro if anyone wants it.

networking features? those are pretty general...

i just think its funny how its so "easy" to network in XP, since you just click on something and it does it for you, while with an older version, you dont have to click anything, just plug it in...

i give the facts, then my opinion so others can take these facts to form their own opinion

here you can see that in terms of every day business-type software, xp and 2000 tie, but once you get into gaming, 2000 pulls away

perhaps i am blowing smoke out my ., but at least i can back it up with data <_<

yes that is true, however i dont even use the wizards in xp cause i think they are crap, if you dont use the wizards you dont have to click anything just like win2k. But then again its not like somebodies gonna make a purchasing desicion because going with one version over the other will save them two or three clicks  , and besides for some of the more complex networking things a couple of clicks here and there cannot be avoided. just look at the facts and make a desicion for yourself.

And i dont know if you actually read that article or not but not to many people use that out of date system to play games anyways, plus even though 2k did beat xp in a few tests, xp still won the MAJORITY of the tests, even the people running the tests said it was due to a margin of error and a bottleneck in the graphics card. I guess the smoke hasnt stopped billowing out of your . :P if your gonna try to back up your data, do it with better data next time :P

im done :bah:
