Amd Cpu Help Tbred Or Barton

Recommended Posts

HI i am new to forum and was wondering if someone could help me out. I am thinking of buying amd athlon tbred 2400+ (2.0GHZ) for $100 or should i go with the amd athlon xp BARTON core 2500+ a little less with 1.83ghz but 333 bus speed instead of 266 in 2400+

the barton 2500+ costs $128

the tbred 2400+ costs $100

i am probably going to make my first attempt to overclock this cpu and was thinking of getting gigabyte 7vax kt400 mobo.

looking to keep price down so please help me decide on a cpu

should i spring the extra 28 bucks for the barton even though it is only advertised at 1.83ghz vs th tbred 2400+ @2ghz

will the 333 bus speed make it faster than the 2ghz

HELP PLEASE Thanks

ok do this. Get the Epox ep-8rga mobo because of its descent onboard vid card saving you 80 bucks right there the epox is 110 the onboard vid card(which comes free) is about 70-80bucks. then get the 2500+ barton because it will oc better and is way better than the 2400+ tbred=) make sure to get some descent ram so u can run the 2500+ at 3000+ speed=)

Well i just got my ASUS A7N8X and i got it so it would support 3000+ or higher. Im going with a 2100+ Tbred right now because i hear they oc good then im planning on going w/ a barton when the prices go down a bit. But yes the 512 L2 is hard to resist. I cant wait till it gets over a gig. that would rock! Know how the market is going i bet a bucket of chicken that intel will come out w/ it first. If AMD did that would put them in the lead for once! but i dont see it happening.

all amd has to do to take the lead is drop prices so that their latest proc debut at 200 bucks and like the 2500 barton would be like 60 bucks=) everyone would buy the new amd whatever

No because intel has rule over the "dump people" and the major manufactures aka DELL, and gateway. And they controll alot but not all of HP/Compaq, Sony, & Alienware. Plus they got a bigger advertisement capaign. AMD is allways looks as the cheap, goto if you cant afford brand. Eventhough Overclockers know that you can do alot w/ AMD.

my .02 is i would go with eaither a 1700+ tbred b or 2100+ tbred b both will still get you to 2.3 gig or more depending on you cooling if it is good i just bought a 2100+ and it going @2525 2.0v water cooled though my 1700 dlt3c tbredb would go to 2450 stable and this 2100 goes to 2500 stable but the 1700 are cheaper if your going with a tbred

mobo i would say go with the abit nf7 or nf7-s 2.0 versions the nf7-s has sound storm certified auido i heard asus isnt certified anymore there is also a nf7-m it has onboard video but i dont know of a 2.0 version yet

if you looking for a 1700+ go to excalaber.com gurented stepping and you can choose if you want the 1.5v dlt3c or the 1.6v dut3c i have heard the dLt3c's go farther but i didnt have no luck i got farther with a dut3c they also have the 2100 but they are more

2100+ newegg.com for a 2100+

and gameve.com has the 2.0 nf7-s

thoese are the places i got my stuff from (cheepest i found at the time) check googlegear.com also

i havent tried a barton so i cant advise on that chip it just depends what your going to be doing i guess

Really either chip is good, but the 2500+ is better from what I've seen in benchmarks and it does OC well. But I strongly advise you to not get the gigabyte 7vax kt400. Get the Epox ep-8rga or the Asus a7n8x, those two are better boards.
