Creationists Pollute Young Minds At Museum

Opinion Ahead...

It's really hard to say that these kids will have a choice when they're being taught that all other views besides that one are wrong. Some of the kids in that video can't be over 4 years old and that's going to stick with them for the rest of their lives. It's just like the alphabet. You're taught from the very beginning that it goes ABC and it's permanently engraved into your brain. Trying to recite it any other way feels wrong to do. Those kids are so heavily indoctrinated that breaking free of that line of belief is next to impossible.

Oh yeah, cause it's not like there are any people around who grew up in a religion and dropped it all to live another lifestyle. And there certainly aren't people who made the opposite transition.

The parents have a choice to teach they're children whatever they want.

To me, the science simply proves the higher being. I've had enough high-level mathematics that it's actually hard for me to NOT believe in God. See the quote in my sig. The maths simply explain everything TOO well. If life is as random as pure evolution states, then there shouldn't be a commonality amongst everything, everywhere.

As for the video, I didn't watch it all, but some of the things the reporter said simply are not Biblical.

Holla back! Math, statistics, odds, chaos theory, (universe tends to fall towards chaos without intervention,) matter/energy breakdown theory, It's hard to argue.

Quick thought, If an animal needed to evolve to survive and only one piece of DNA had to change how hard would that be? Would the animal die before it happened? Do life forms tend to mutate towards perfection or do genetic variances cause major problems for all life that experiences them?

Take a cookie sheet with 46 marbles on it all lined up and colour matched per line. Move two marbles out of position. Now gently tap the bottom of the pan anywhere you like and try and move the marbles into their proper place representing the "perfect" evolution. This is a very fair representation of the odds of a life forms DNA altering to a better state. Odds of success? anyone? How about the odds of the chain being completed if a higher power intervenes?....(pick up the marble and move it I bet you can do it on the first try!-)

And the above posts are what lead to religion in the first place.

Is all I have to say. Creationism holds no water outside of the inability to explain things in the past and ignorance of humans. It is not science, and does not belong in a science class (and my chem teacher (masters in chemistry), who is also a deacon at the local catholic church, supports that idea fully). Likewise, it doesn't belong in a scientific and factual place such as a museum.

KB, I watched part of your link, and honestly didn't see anything that "disproved" ID. Just a bunch of stuff that supports evolution. And I agree, ID is not science because it is not testable. But that doesn't prove anything. They aren't mutually exclusive once you stop drawing extraneous, unsupported conclusions from evolution or creationism. The fact that evolution may not be a theory still doesn't not explain the "why". Simply the "how" at a physical level. I guess since I agree that ID isn't science, then it probably isn't the proper term for what I believe. But I do believe that evolution is driven by a higher power.

As for not belonging in a museum, the museum curators weren't the ones giving the tour. It was an independant group and they therefore can say whatever they want.

First of all, that picture is awesome!

Second, like others have said, I see no reason why evolution and ID need to be mutually exclusive. I wouldn't say I "believe" either. Rather, I'm willing to entertain both theories equally and in unison.

Having said that, there's a big difference between ID and Creationism. I don't consider myself religious AT ALL, but I'm willing to respect pretty much anyone's religion as long as they're not pushy about it. But Creationism goes too far, and I simply can't respect it. Teaching those ideals to small children and raising them to truly believe it is equivalent to mentally crippling them. You might as well teach them that logic and reason aren't important.

I can see how people believe in creationism, I can respect the fact that they want to have a place to put exhibits showing their views. But, in my personal opinion those kids are too young to really understand religion and what it means. If you want to give this tour to a bunch of teenagers/young adults, thats cool. Kids that age arent educated enough to have both sides of the argument.
