i spent the last few hours reading up on how to softmod my 1950, so i did :) all n all its alot faster in Maya and 3dsMax and about the same in games, the difference you ask?

i save myself..lets see....1,450-130=$1320, yeah thats right i just saved 1.3k :)ATi FireGl V7350 . also Dual screen works (not suppose to so they say, i just got the newest CCC and it works now) and hardware rendering in maya works (it didnt before).

my super quick benchmarks because i didnt want to waste all this time to find it the softmod wouldn't work.

for under $100 you can make a cheap workstation card, oddly the 2600xt outdoes my x1950 once softmodded, scores over 110 in maya-02.

anyways i'll make a quick guide once i figure how i got it to work lol, i thought you guys would like to know a cheap way to make a workstation card.

also heres a quick chart for your counter-part card:

FireGL 3300 = (1300/1400)

FireGL 5200 = (1300XT/1600/1650Pro)

FireGL 7350 = (1800)

FireGL 7400 = (1950pro) (I cant find this card anywheres)

FireGL V5200 = (MOBILITY 1600)

FireGL V7200 = (MOBILITY 1800)

54GL = (MOBILITY1300/1400/1350/1450)

66GL =(MOBILITY 1750)

FireGL RV610GL =(HD 2400 LE)

FireGL V5600 = (HD 2600XT)

FireGL 3600 = (HD2600)

FireGL M76GL = (HD2600XT GEMINI)

Mobile FireGL V3600 R630 = (MOBILITY 2600)

Mobile FireGL V5600 R630 = (MOBILITY HD2600 XT)

R600GL V8650 = (HD2900 XT)

R600GL V8600 = (HD2900 Pro)

R600GL V7600 = (HD2900 GT)

R670 V7700 = HD 3000 series

Guide moved to make it overall easier to update, you can find it HERE

awesome... I have an X1950Pro in my X2 3800 rig, and even though I won't use it as the workstation, it will probably help performance when running Network Rendering in 3DSMax :)

I wonder if it does make a different for Net Render... hmm

On a side note to PCI-e 6800GS users, don't try making it a Quadro :lol: It's NOT supported, neither is any other NV41 based card.

(also it's very easy with nvidia, just make a few changes in rivatuner)

I have a question on this. I was just comparing the some of the cards you listed to the firegl counterpart. Looking at the firegl v8650 the card uses ddr4 ram and has 2gb of memory while its counterpart is using 512 ddr2 ram. How does the script change make the change here?

Maybe I am missing something here.

from what i read the script is to "activate" the parts that the workstation counterpart has. kinda like turning on disable pipes on some old card (EX:6800 vanilla 12pipe -> 6800ultra 16pipe). its more about the chip series rather than the speed or kind of ram. without the correct chip the "extra" feature turned on will do nothing. It may or may not be built into the chip, (Ex: 1900xt DX9 -> 2900 DX10) enabling the wrong features may cause damage to the card as its trying to run code complied for a different chip architect within a Series of cards (Ex: 2400,2600,2900) does this make any sense? as for speed, different DDR speeds, chip mhz, etc this is not something that makes it incompatible. just like there are 3-4 different versions of one card since each company 10mhz higher to beat its competitors. the 2900xt lets say may have 3 versions that are 25mhz apart and 2 versions using DDR4 ram. this is just an extra speed boost because core architect of the chip stays the same in the R600s, R500s etc.

anyways i think you meant to say 512DDR3. if you pick something in the same chip series v8650,v8600 V7600. the only thing that will be different between the 3 is the name, since its a softmod your GPU and RAM mhz do not change, only the drivers and name puts it apart, using a HD2900 GT and using the V8650 script wont make it any faster than a V7600, all it will do is enable the workstation features (since it is the correct Series R600) and call it a V8650. the name means nothing when it comes down to a softmod only the correct Series (R600, R5xx..etc)

\Yes sorry I did mean ddr3. And that is what I was thinking your getting the functions but not the speed of the other card. I might flash a hd 2600 into a v5600 and see if my brother can screw with the driver and get it to run in crossfire. Just a cheap exparament since ATI wont enable crossfire with the firegl cards. As far as I can tell thats all they need as the cards are crossfire ready its just the driver thats lacking for crossfire to work.
