kingdingeling Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 nightsider, PLEASE learn to use punctuation! I still use XP for three reasons: 1.) I have not bought a new computer which had it pre-installed 2.) I'm not paying over
Verran Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Not on my current box... Not on my old Opteron box... Maybe user error? I've installed it multiple times, and I've installed multiple flavors. Any time I've ever run some form of application installer file, it sits there for a significant amount of time (at least 5 seconds, sometimes it's like 20) before it starts up. But maybe it is user error. Double clicking an installer file is tricky, and maybe I'm just not skilled enough to do so properly. Puck Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Let xp die... There are many things about vista that are better than XP. My number 1 is that I no longer have to reformat every six freakin months to keep Vista fast. ...because it never is Not on my current box... Not on my old Opteron box... Maybe user error? It is well documented and tested that XP is still quicker then Vista in most everything. Hence the reason games have requirements for XP, then Vista listed seperately - in which vista reqs are quite a bit higher. Supposedly SP1 will help, but until performance catches up there is no way I will switch to a slower os.

You're doing something wrong then, I've never seen that kind of delay for anything. I don't exactly have a bleeding-edge box either... It is well documented and tested that XP is still quicker then Vista in most everything. Unnoticeable amounts on nearly everything, yes. Vista is also slightly faster for a few games too. road-runner Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I just put vista on my rig a few days ago and I do not like the load time for it before I can start up my bench programs. With XP when the screen came on you could open anything immediately. Of course I still need to disable some services and tweak it a little bit, but so far it seems ok... With all the tweaking benchmarkers do(or should do), starting with a slower bloated OS in the first place is a step in the wrong direction. gotdamojo06 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 An online petition was able to bring the CBS show Jericho back on the air. Is there something wrong with Jericho? It is a great show! I dont think that M$ should just drop XP all together, they should still put out some good updates to the OS, however they do not need to sell it any more, like it has been said before, if you need a copy, im sure that you can find a copy somewhere and most people already have it. I think that Vista still needs a few improvements and x64 version still needs work, if M$ could focus on those things more, the consumer would be happier with Vista. Thats my 2cents
fire_storm Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I think its a good thing that there going to stop selling XP. Know Microsoft can finally concentrate on fixing the bugs in vista and make it a better OS. As for the whole XP being slower then vista thing I think that over time this is going to be resolved and everyone will get attached to vista just like they have with XP. Besides software bugs which slow down vista I think that another problem is that computers today just don't have enough power to handle the heavy load from vista. But as newer faster parts come out along with bugs being fixed these 2 things will eventually make vista a great OS.

Sorry, but it definitely sounds like a PEBKAC error to me, as I've never experienced any such display with any installer. Maybe you didn't disable the UAC properly? Of course I still need to disable some services and tweak it a little bit, but so far it seems ok...The only thing that takes a few seconds to load is the widgets within my sidebar, but other than that, I can start anything immediately (though I'll often wait until AVG checks for updates). Is there something wrong with Jericho? It is a great show!no no, I love Jericho! I was merely stating that online petitions do sometimes work. Waco Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 starting with a slower bloated OS in the first place is a step in the wrong direction. Like XP? Just go back to 98se then.
