Motherboard died?

Recommended Posts

My cousin gave me an older AMD machine a while back, it worked good then one day wouldn't power up.

The CPU fan ran, lights on front of case, nothing more.

So I tested the PSU, it's toast.

Installed a new Antec 350W PSU, it tests OK, but when plugged into the MB, nothing happens at all.

Dead board?

TIA

Try putting it on a motherboard box outside the case, there might be grounding issues.

Do you mean that the MB could be contacting the case?

another I notice is that a MB wont do anything with out a processor... maybe processor is fried...

Thanks. I'm going to try isolating the MB when I get a chance, if no change I guess I'm done, this unit isn't really worth a MB or a CPU. I just want to be sure it's not something simple that I'm overlooking. :)

Sometimes the problems could be screws. One time I had a screw roll behind the motherboard and had no idea it was there and ended up giving contact with the case and the MoBo causing a grounding problem leaving my computer dead. Problem was solved when I heard the screw roll out when I tilted the case. :thumbs-up:

Funny you should mention that, I did notice an empty screw hole on the MB... <_<
