Queenz Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I was thinking of adding in a chipset waterblock in my loop, is watercooling your chipset really something I should do. The northbridge on my blood iron board gets hot on stock speeds and when oc'ed it gets alot hotter. Will this effect the peformance of cooling on my cpu waterblock? Verran Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 For most people, I think northbridge watercooling is very much overkill. Too much flow loss and not much need for it really. An upgraded air cooler (even passive) should be more than most people will ever need.
Queenz Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Is this chipset cooler any good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835109018

Andrewr05 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Really unless your going Uber extreme its not worth it, as long as there is some airflow through out the case a passive or a mild active heatsink should be fine... ClayMeow Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 WCing a chipset is a waste and will do more harm than good.
Puck Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Like stated, there is only one time when advanced chipset cooling is neccesary, and that is when your motherboard has maxed its fsb before the chip has reached its max, and it may help the board to reach the OCs the chip is capable of. Usually the chip reaches its limit before the FSB though, unless you have a low multiplier chip that happens to OC very well(like my old lil Venus Opty). Even then an active air cooler is plenty, and WC will just be a huge pressure drop.
