xp security

i'm working with xp pro. i can't open a link when it refers directly to an .exe file on a ftp-server. i always have to log on to the ftp-server and then copy the .exe file to my harddisk to open it. how do i adjust this security measure?

it isn't always possible to log in to an ftp-server without a login name and password, so some files are just unreachable for me while they should be reachable for every one...

Thats what a FTP server is for FTP=File Transfer Protocol..it's used for transfering/sharing files...the admin to the site has the server setup (permissions/restrictions)so u cant run files on the server itself....i.e. so u can't destroy the server with a virus etc...is that the answer your looking for?
