Waco Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Man this little thing is cool. If you're looking for an ultra-portable laptop I don't think I can recommend anything else. I grabbed the 4G Surf in black and upgraded it to 2 gigs of DDR2-667 and added a 16 GB SDHC card. Even with the default Xandros installation limited at 1 GB, it FLIES. The keyboard is tiny but you get used to it after about 5 minutes of using it. I'll be throwing WinXP on it this weekend, by then I'll have pics and such too. I don't think you can beat it for $480 shipped ($350 + upgrades + shipping).
philbrown23 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 where did you order it from? my wife wants one of those small laptops but all I've been able to find are all like 800+.
Andrewr05 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) Those things look sweet! I was thinking about getting one myself. I think you should have waited a bit though, they are coming out with larger screened models fairly soon... Also if you want more information about your EeePC, visit eeeuser.com. They have a plethora of information from general details to linux distos made for the Eee to new model information. Check em' out! Kash Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 We saw one of these during the Asus keynote at CES and I'll agree, it was a sweet little laptop. If I didn't already have a Macbook, I would have gotten me an EeePC
hardnrg Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 if you're like MC Hammer, you can fit it in your pocket! I'd love an EeePC... all I'd want a laptop for is to write up some notes, maybe a bit of a paper, emails, internet... I dunno maybe a graph or something... no games or movies (I use a PSP for them), no music (I have a Cowon DAP)... oh I guess if you could use VoIP on it that would be pretty damn awesome, so I'd use that too Google maps... The EeePC looks most awesome when used with Asus WiMax (massively wide-area ultra high-speed wireless, the next step in mobile internet)

These things look awesome though, they have tiny screens but they are quite versdatile in their usage. A lot of people are modding them and playing around with the hardware quite a bit too... Bleeble Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 I've played around with one a bit at work but was never too impressed by it. I can see its uses, but I'm a 90-pound-desktop kind of guy. Glad you're enjoying it though.
Waco Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Okay, nLite is officially the coolest program ever. Trimmed ~400 megs of junk out of my XP installer and it's now installing completely without me (and setting up my user account as well as a couple programs). I've already got eeeClk downloaded to the flash drive with the configs I'm going to use. 500 MHz for battery saver and 1 GHz for performance mode (assuming it is stable at that speed). Waco Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Got it up and running 100%. 450 MHz works great using eeeclk to downclock (I know, blasphemy!) and works great to crank it up past 1 GHz as well. I have it running Prime now at 122 MHz * 9 = 1098 MHz to see how it holds up. Temps are kept in check with the fan running 100% at around 60 C. So far so good 2.5 hours in.
