airman Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) Not sure what forum this needs to go in - so fix me if i'm wrong. Anyways - just wanted to introduce my new toy - the Sony HDR-SR5 High-Def 40gb camcorder. it's pretty impressive, although it's not "full" hd like it is marketed as. but hey, it's still pretty dang good. picked it up at work on open box for $589. it was the display model that no one ever touched because it wasn't powered up anyways - one of my favorite features so far is the slow-mo function - i think it's something like 120 frames per second. takes a 3 second clip and makes it 12. here's a slowmo vid i took. the quality is marginal - it gets kinda fuzzy when you do it, but i think that's common on high-speed cameras. http://www.protechsounds.com/funpics/fire.mpg rightclick > save as Edited February 13, 2008 by airman
Silverfox Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 My Dad has one of these, though might not be quite the same spec - 1440x1080 sound about right for the res? Sony AVHC or some weird codec ... hates to play ball ... But, through an HDTV, it records well and it is fantastic to watch. They are good value imo. Silverfox Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 That's the one. Sony Vegas sees it fine, but it's a nightmare elsewhere. We filmed my (then) new car last year and the clip was superb, even with motion. I can highly recommend them!
suchuwato Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 1440x1080 is full consumer hd
Silverfox Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 1440x1080 is full consumer hd Exactly, it's a proper weird resolution, eh? But they look pretty smart and record very well.
airman Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 true, but i consider "full hd" 1920x1080, like all of the 1080i/p tvs.
Silverfox Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 true, but i consider "full hd" 1920x1080, like all of the 1080i/p tvs. That's because 1920x1080 is true HD in current terms The HDR-SR5 is just a bit retarded in that aspect, but blinding in all the others
