Pings fine, but no internet?

My bro just got home, and he once again tried to connect to our wireless. Everything seems to work, he pings fine (Me, router, OCC, Google), but he doesn't get any internet in neither Firefox nor Internet Explorer 7. Anyone know what's going on?

Sounds like he did a spyware sweep and now he needs to repair winsocks.

start > run > cmd > type netsh winsock reset

 

If that doesn't work download "winsockfix" and run it. If that doesn't do it then run HiJackThis on his PC and post the log back here.

also, with my Linksys BEFSR41 (wired), I have to do a DHCP Release/Renew in the router settings when connecting a new computer to allow it full internet access

i've had this issue at work where people had a bad install of norton internet security or other software firewalls. if you have or have had something like that, find a removal tool. worked for me last time.

 

check a program called LSPFix. that will tell you whether or not you have something wrong with your winsocks.

I don't see anything in your log file that jumps out as nasty to me.

 

Try downloading smitfraudfix and combofix. Reboot into safe mode and then run smitfraudfix and then combofix. Restart into regular mode and see if that fixed it.

Quick suggestion: Try disabling any antivirus program he may have and then any firewall, including Winblows Firewall. Then do an ipconfig /release and an ipconfig /renew in command prompt window.

OK this may or may not be a stupid question(s). First of all I assume its a laptop correct? Secondly does it have onboard wireless or is it using a add-on card?
