yatstv Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 dont know what section to put this under.. mobo or video but... does it matter what slot u put your video in on an sli board.. because my fan on my new videocard is going to cover my pcie x1 slot, so i was wondering if i could place my video in the number 2 slot instead? the pcie 1x slot is in between the sli slots.. capthowdy575 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 do u have a physics card or something?
Comp Dude2 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 erm.....not really sure though i would say probably. why do you need the pci 1x anyway? most good manufactures will put them there deliberatly because they arent much use. kingdingeling Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 If he's using for example the Abit AirPace WiFi, then the slot is actually some use
soccertl Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 (edited) I guess that would depend on how your board is designed. Haven't looked at a lot but, for example, my IP35 Pro board says the first slot is the master graphics slot and the second is the slave. In further detail, the second slot only runs at x4 instead of x16, so that would slow down the data throughput potential. However, even at x4 you get 1GB/s transfer rate. So, you have to see what the data throughput is on your card. If it doesn't come close to that, then it won't matter. I haven't even looked at those numbers before so I would have to research it. yatstv Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 ok.. sorry for lack of info.. u will find it all on newegg.. but im getting the ecs am2 mobo around 89$ and asus 3850 512meg 199.99$ and a creative xfi soundcard which is pcie 1x interface, thats what its being used for.. the asus videocard has quite a big fan on it and if i put it on the 1st slot i cant put my soundcard in.. i looked on specifications on mobo and it says both slots are x16 pcie.. so hopefully as u say it shouldnt matter then.. i hope.. lol
soccertl Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Well, there are quite a few ECS AM2 motherboards on NewEgg. However, if the specs say they are both x16 then I guess it really doesn't matter.

hardnrg Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 they're both full x16, so it will run in the 2nd slot... you might have to enable/disable CF in the bios don't you have a manual? if not, you can download it from the ECS website your board isn't SLI... hardnrg Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 you can download a manual, whether you own the motherboard or not I often download the manual, BIOS firmwares, drivers, software for the motherboard before it arrives, so when I receive it I have EVERYthing ready to go
