ApfDaMan Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 This is what i plan to buy. any suggestions? the main thing im not happy with is the questionable quality of the DDR3 RAM, but there is nothing much else in stock and it is sufficient. also, there may be a better case out there, but kepe in mind the graphics card is very long (10.5 inches if i recall correctly) PLEASE NOTE all prices are in australian dollars. yes things are rather expensive down under CPU Core 2 Quad Q9550
Verran Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I'm not really a fan of the DDR3 or the Gigabyte PSU. Other than that, it looks pretty good.
ApfDaMan Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 The gigabyte PSU has excellent reviews on tomshardware.com, and excellent reviews on newegg.com, so ill most likley be sticking with that. however i have decided to change to DDR2 RAM and a DDR2 motherboard. when will the x48s be coming out? Well, I think newegg reviews are a joke, honestly. Half of those people don't know a PCI slot from their... well, you know. As for the Tom's Hardware review, I didn't see it over there when I went and looked. I like to go by the Xtreme Systems Tiered PSU List, but Gigabyte is not on there at all, and that concerns me. I'm sure Gigabyte is just rebranding it, but I don't know who really makes it. If it were me, I'd just go with the Corsair 750W because it's cheaper ($233 AU) and I trust it more. MUCH better PSU, although still overkill for that system! DDR2 RAM is so dirt cheap, get 4GBs of that for half the price of 1GB DDR3! ApfDaMan Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Ohh very persuading. Corsair does own. ill think about it the whole software control of the gigabyte is very nice, an idea i thought up of a few months earlier and thought it would be cool, and lo and behold someone pulled it off. Definatley getting DDR2 RAM. any motherboard suggestions? should i wait until x48 mobos? now ive pretty much selected everything except that... Good call on the DDR2. DDR3 speeds do us no good still, so it's not really worth the extra money and slower timings. As for the x48, I guess my answer is "I'unno" It sort of depends on what you're looking for. If you're not going to be going for crossfire (crossfire X2's, wow! ), I'd actually say to step back to one of the higher end P35 boards. I don't actually know that much about x48 though, and I've heard nothing about release dates. Maybe I'll do some reading on them this afternoon

ApfDaMan Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 DDR2-800 Corsair 2GB-Kit [TWIN2X2048-6400C4 G] (2x XMS2 1GB) PC-6400, 2x240-pin DIMMs, Non ECC Unbuffered, 4-4-4-
kingdingeling Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 For the power supply, pick up a Corsair HX620W, it's modular, and definitely has enough power for your rig! Also, for the memory, why don't you look past Corsair? I know I just recommended a Corsair PSU, but for memory I would definitely look elsewhere! Two sets (4GB) of this G.Skill PK DDR2-800 would work very nicely, which also ends up being cheaper than the Corsairs.
