Build for a friend

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine wants me to build him a PC for around $500 mostly for playing WoW and a downloading music.

Its not going to be his main rig, just one he takes when he goes to his house which is in another state.

so it needs to be small-"er" than his main rig.

Also he already has a screen, mouse, keyboard, speakers so dont need to include those.

This is what i have put together.

Athlon 5000+ Brisbane: $90

Gigabite micro-Atx MB: $47

HEC MiniTower with a 585W psu: $45

Zogis Geforce 8600GT: $90

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16814136019

Wintec 2GB DDR2 800: $44

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16820161063

250GB Segate Barracuda: $70

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16822148262

Lite-On dvd burner: $29

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16827106070

Windows XP home: $90

total= $505

I would Prefer an C2D processor but i couldent fit it into the budget

Feel free to give me some suggestions if you think i forgot something or

I don't think the MB is that bad. My main concern is that no-name PSU in the case. I wouldn't trust it. I would find a way to work something like this Fortron into the mix because it's not worth gambling on crappy PSUs.

Thanks for the advice Verran :) think i will go with that power supply and this HEC micro-atx case

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16811121003

only worry is will that ATX power supply fit into this case?

Its a little over the budget but i think he will be willing to pay an extra $40 for a more reliable system.

Yeah, the ATX PSU will fit in a mATX case. But an ATX motherboard won't fit into an mATX case, just for the record :)

I think it's a smart move to up the budget a bit. I was looking over your build and I think it's at a good point and trimming back any of the other parts would really hurt it. But at the same time, I just think it's a very bad idea to put a POS power supply in there. It's definitely worth it to step up to something reliable.
